1.35 A visit to the Nangong Palace
Liu Bei asked, "I wonder which empress dowager was summoned?"
The Huangmen Order Zuo Feng replied, "First it was Empress Dowager Dong, and then it was Empress Dowager Dou."
Liu Bei nodded and said: In the opinion of the young master, which empress dowager should I go to see first?
The Huangmen ordered Zuo Feng to think about it and said: But first meet Empress Dowager Dong, then later meet Empress Dowager Dou.
Liu Bei nodded, changed his court robes, and entered the palace with the Huangmen Order.
Both empress dowagers live in Nangong.
Liu Bei was dazzled by the way. The Yellow Gate ordered Zuo Feng to act as a guide, and whenever he went, he would tell the rise of the history of the place.
As mentioned earlier, there are four palace gates with the same direction and name in the north and south palaces. On both sides of the gate are Zhuque Gate, Canglong Gate is the east, Xuanwu Gate is the north, and Baihu Gate is the west. Nangong Xuanwu Gate is connected to the Fudao of the Beigong Zhuque Gate. Nangong Zhuque Gate is the main gate facing south, which is connected to the Pingcheng Gate and can reach directly outside the city. Since the emperor enters and exits many times, this gate is the most noble and particularly majestic.
"Continued Book of Han? Records of Hundred Officials" records: Nangong, there were 95 officers and 537 guards. Beigong, there were 72 officers and 471 guards.
It can be seen that both the architecture and the system are larger than the Beigong.
Nangong is the place where Your Majesty and his ministers discuss politics.
The buildings are neat and orderly, with palaces lined up one after another. The main palace is located on the north-south central axis. From north to south, they are: Sima Gate, Duan Gate, Qunitian, Zhanghua Gate, Chongde Hall, Zhongde Hall, Qianqiu Wansheng Hall and Pingshuo Hall.
On both sides of the central axis, there are two rows of symmetrical palace complexes.
The two rows on the west side are arranged in order from south to north:
The east row is Hongde Gate, Mingguang Hall, Xuanshi Hall, Chengfu Hall, Jiade Gate, Jiade Hall, Yutang Hall, Xuande Hall, Jiande Hall. The west row is Yuntai Hall, Xianqiu Hall, Hanzhang Hall, Yuntai, Lantai, Age, Changqiu Palace, and West Palace.
The two rows on the east side are arranged in sequence from south to north:
The west row is the Golden Horse Hall, the Tong Horse Hall, the Jingfa Hall, the Zhangde Hall, the Lecheng Gate Hall, the Lecheng Hall, the Wende Hall and the East Palace. The east row is the Shizhonglu, the Qingliang Hall, the Phoenix Hall, the Huanglong Hall, the Shou'an Hall, the Bamboo Hall, the Chengfeng Hall and the East Palace.
The four rows of palaces on both sides of the central axis are parallel to the central axis, with regular layout and orderly arrangement, highlighting the momentum and majesty of the main palace.
If the five rows of buildings in the north and south are arranged horizontally in a horizontal direction that meet the central axis, they can be divided into eight rows. In this way, there are straight roads in front, back, left and right of each palace building to connect with the adjacent palaces. If you stand on the high platform and look down at the Nangong, you will see a very regular grid layout, showing the regular and symmetrical architectural style of Han style. It has a profound impact on later generations.
In addition to showing the graceful and generous royal style, the Nangong Palace complex is also a must for a huge government organization.
The palace inside the gate was originally the main hall of Nangong. In October of the first year of Jianwu (25th), Emperor Guangwu drove into the city, but fortunately the palace was the capital of Luoyang. The palace became the court for Emperor Guangwu to handle national affairs. Many military and national affairs were decided by Emperor Guangwu and his ministers, and then released the whole country. During the Yongping period of Emperor Ming, Chongde Hall was built, and the palace was renamed as the main hall of Nangong until the end of the Han Dynasty.
Zuo Feng said that in the early Han Dynasty, Beigong was disrepaired for a long time, so all matters were handled in Nangong. After Emperor Ming ascended the throne, Beigong was overhauled.
Liu Bei nodded happily. The prerequisite for being a good yellow gate order must be a good guide first.
The Jiade Hall is located in the north of Mingguang Hall, and there is Jiade Gate in front of the hall, which is the former site of Jiulong Hall during the Zhou Dynasty. Jiulong Hall was destroyed during the Han Dynasty, and only Jiulong Gate still exists. Jiulong Gate was the main gate of Jiade Hall during the Jiulong Gate. Three copper pillars were set up in Jiulong Gate. Each pillar was entangled with three dragons, so it was called Jiulong Gate. After Your Majesty ascended the throne, he posthumously recognized his deceased father as Emperor Xiaoren (only called the emperor, not the emperor), and respectfully called his mother Dong as Empress Xiaoren. He was in Jiade Hall and renamed him Yongle Palace.
In other words, Your Majesty did not respect his mother as the Empress Dowager. Nowadays, only Empress Dowager Dou is the only one who calls her Empress Dowager.
However, since Your Majesty has become the emperor, from the perspective of inheritance of honor, Empress Xiaoren naturally became Empress Xiaoren.
Therefore, there are two queens in Nangong.
When the Empress Dowager summoned foreign ministers, she must set up a screen.
After following the Zhongchangshi reported to him. Liu Bei then stepped into the hall and knelt down on the screen: "My minister, Liu Bei, kowtow to the Empress Dowager."
"Raise your head and answer." The domineering voice came from behind the screen.
"Here." Liu Bei slowly looked up and saw a swaying figure behind the screen. The empress dowager was sitting in the middle, and most of the ones surrounded by His Majesty's concubines.
"I am very happy with the things I have offered before. The Marquis of Linxiang has troubled me."
"Thank you, Empress Dowager." Liu Bei bowed again.
"I heard that I wanted the house of Taiwei Duan and lived in the breeding goods?" Empress Dowager Dong also asked about family matters.
“That’s right.”
"A few days ago, Da Changqiu was sick and went to Mingguang Hall to ask for a sage. It was specially designed to open a small market in Luoyang for the Marquis of Linxiang. Once the market opened, it would inevitably make money every day. I heard that the Marquis of Linxiang was good at managing the family, but I didn't believe it before. Now it's considered to be true."
Mingguang Hall is located in Hongde Gate. It is located in the east of the Chingfei Palace, which is where the Shangshu Lang reported the affairs. Now the Han Dynasty has set up a Shangshu Tai to serve as the three princesses. There is one Shangshu Ling in charge of the election of officials and the Shangshu Pushe, and the Shangshu memorials. The Shangshu Pushe ranks 600 stones. It is divided into left and right servants to assist the Shangshu Ling in handling affairs. When the Shangshu Ling is not here, it can be reported as the Shangshu Ling. He is in charge of the affairs of the ministers, governors, officials, foreign and ethnic minorities, and there is one left and right minister under the jurisdiction of the six ministers. There are 36 ministers in the six ministers, each with six people, and 18 commanders. The Shangshu Ling and his subordinate officials report all in the Mingguang Hall.
Because he held the power of promotion and appointment of personnel, the Shangshu ordered his great power.
Many officials even had to thank Cao Jie's mansion first, and then went to the Shangshu Desk to go through the handover procedures. This shows how powerful Cao Jie's power is. As the same thing, if he does not die, how could the ten regular servants come from?
However, what does the Empress Dowager mean?
After thinking a little, Liu Bei realized: "I ask Your Majesty and the Queen Mother to be blessed. If you can make a fortune every day, I will definitely contribute to it in all four seasons."
"Hihehe..." The Empress Dowager smiled and said, "It is said that the Qilin of the Hou Tian family in Linxiang is indeed extremely intelligent. I have thanked you in advance." It was indeed a request for bribes.
"I, I dare not." Liu Bei bowed again.
"I heard again that the happy event of the Marquis of Linxiang is approaching. My wife, Gongsun, is going to give birth to Lin'er."
"That's right." When talking about his first wife, Liu Bei couldn't help but soften his tone.
"The two side rooms are also pregnant."
"yes."
"There are successors of Linxiang Hou, and it is a joyful congratulation." This sentence comes from the heart. The former emperor had no son and even the throne could not be continued. Although Your Majesty now has many girls, he is also a young child. I heard that there is a beautiful prince in the harem about to come to the plate. Your Majesty cherishes a lot.
"Mrs. Thank you."
"I have a question, can the marquis of Linxiang answer or not. Do not worry about it." The empress dowager said again.
"I, listen carefully."
"You are the saying "eat the young and marry a young man". Why is Linxiang Hou such a person who wants to marry the wife of his eldest mother? Just imagine. In another ten years, Linxiang Hou is in his prime, but his first wife is about to grow old. What if it does?"
"Youth is fleeting, and the face is growing faster. High shores are valleys, and deep shores are tombs. The mats are not warm, and the ink and the ink are not Guizhou. Life is in a hurry for a hundred years. If a beautiful woman can accompany her until she grows old, what else can she want?"
"..." After a long time, a long sigh rang behind the screen: "Your Majesty is a person with long-lasting love."
After saying some more gossip, Empress Dowager Dong let Liu Bei leave.
As soon as he left the hall, a former general servant came quickly and presented a jade plaque of phoenix bird, dragon pattern to Liu Bei. He said that with this jade, he could enter and exit the Nangong. Liu Bei thanked him without mentioning it.
