451. Emperor

Apu and his friends took the wooden carriage all the way to the foot of Yanzhi Mountain. Some gentle sections of the road up and down the mountain have been paved with wooden tracks, leaving only some steep and difficult places, and they need to get off and walk.

To the east of Yanzhi Mountain, all the way to Liangzhou City, wooden tracks were also laid. To the east of Liangzhou City, there was no track.

There were wooden tracks all the way, and transportation between the east and west ends of Yanzhi Mountain was very convenient. However, when we arrived at Yanzhi Mountain, a large amount of manual labor was needed to transport goods. Over time, many porters gradually came to Yanzhi Mountain to make a living.

When Apu and his friends went up the mountain, there were many pedestrians and merchants, as well as porters who kept going up and down the mountain. Most of them carried heavy burdens, leaning on wooden sticks. If they were really tired of walking, they would raise wooden sticks to hold the shoulder pole. The baskets on both ends of the load were placed on the slope and hung in the air. This way, they could rest for a while, carry loads and climb the hills, and they would mostly do this.

As more people come and go on Yanzhi Mountain, fewer and fewer wild animals on the mountain. Occasionally, if you hear wild animals appear, you will be beaten up soon.

So it is safer along the way. When you walk out of the barren slope, you can often see stalls selling hot water and food. Some people also built straw sheds and mud houses on the mountain to live in it.

After getting off Yanzhi Mountain and passing Liangzhou City, I went to Chang'an, and there was only a cement road.

When I was building this road in the early years, the cement used was not the current improved cement varieties, and the texture was slightly inferior. After self-repair, the road surface was inevitably bumpy and broken after so many years. Some sections were really unbearable, and some sections were in a slightly better condition.

Since this team from Changle County got on this cement road, it has been very difficult to walk.

In Chang'an City, I have been discussing road repairs recently.

The railway track on Henan Road was about to be completed. As early as November last year, someone proposed to build Lingnan Road. Later, someone transported a lot of goods from Lingnan Road by sea. After that, many merchants sailed to Lingnan. In this way, the land route seemed less important.

Some people also proposed to build this road to Hexi, mainly led by Changsun Wuji.

Changsun Wuji is not only the deceased Empress Changsun, but also an important figure in the Guanlong Group. He also has the right to speak in this group. In addition, after years of operation, he also has power in the court.

This is also the reason why the new emperor became a powerful minister after he ascended the throne. What he relied on was not just the identity of the emperor's uncle.

In this court, there are many people who are afraid of Changsun Wuji and even treat him as a disaster.

At this time, Changsun Wuji said he wanted to build Hexi Road, and someone stood up to oppose it, saying that they still thought that Lingnan Road should be built first.

Changsun Wuji fought with him, so they said that the Guanlong group bullied the people of Lingnan and said that the road to Lingnan was difficult and dangerous. I often heard that pedestrians and porters were harmed by wild animals, so it was important to build Lingnan Road first.

Changsun Wuji was angry. What is this called bullying? Lingnan Road should be built, but Hexi Road should not be built?

Longyou Dao has developed so fast in recent years. From Chang'an City to Longyou Dao, there is no good road. Is this reasonable?

Furthermore, if we talk about wild beasts, there are no wild beasts in the Tang Dynasty, and there are occasional wild beasts in Chang'an City!

As time went by, the people on both sides gradually turned red and they just pointed at each other's nose and scolded each other.

In the end, the saint came out to rescue the situation, so that everyone would not fight again, and let the roads on both sides go together.

Although he was a peacemaker, for some reason, many people in the court felt that the saint was actually protecting Changsun Wuji.

Changsun Wuji might have thought so in his heart. After all, the struggle in the court is extremely dangerous, and the saint's body has been getting worse every year. In the future, if the new emperor ascends the throne, he still has to rely on his uncle's support.

And if he didn't say what the emperor thought in his heart, no one would know.

When Luo Yong was looking through the information earlier, something was wrong that attracted his attention, which made him unable to help but think about it for a while.

According to the book, when the saint was about to die soon, he had a detailed discussion with Changsun Wuji, but how about he let King Li Ke of Wu become the emperor?

King Li Ke of Wu was the place where the Concubine Yang was. The Yang family was the biological daughter of Emperor Yang Guang of Sui. He was neither born by Empress Changsun, nor was he the nephew of Changsun Wuji. In addition, Li Ke was more independent than Li Zhi, so he was obviously a difficult person to control. Changsun Wuji naturally opposed this matter. Since he opposed it, Li Shimin gave up.

When Li Zhi ascended the throne, Changsun Wuji held high power. Later, while the court investigated and punished Fang Yiai's rebellion, he framed Li Ke and executed him.

Historically, Changsun Wuji's evaluation was often relatively negative because of this.

However, Luo Yong has recently thought about why Li Shimin told Changsun Wuji about this? Is it because he was in poor health and his mind became confused, or was he originally intended to use Changsun Wuji to get rid of Li Ke.

Li Ke has a special status and both parents are royal families. In addition, he is a well-behaved and has a relatively high evaluation among court officials. If he is interested in causing trouble, he will definitely be able to gather many supporters.

Another possibility is that Li Shimin has been plotting against Sun Wuji from the beginning and making longer-term plans for his heirs.

He asked Changsun Wuji to get rid of Li Ke and eliminated this potential threat for Li Zhi, and thus made Changsun Wuji lose his reputation. Later, even if Li Zhi used the Wu family to eliminate Changsun Wuji, he did not get much criticism for this. Even though this person was his uncle, he had done a lot of effort for him.

I'm afraid no one has any deeper feelings about the fact that he bears a bad reputation than Li Shimin.

In this era of filial piety, because of the Xuanwu Gate change, he had almost always been infamous for his life.

Even if Li Shimin himself was willing to eliminate Li Ke, he would definitely not take action rashly. To put it bluntly, Changsun Wuji was stupid.

Regardless of whether Li Shimin deliberately planned or not, the reality was that in the alternation of old and new kings, Changsun Wuji lost his life and power, and served as a stepping stone for his father and son.

Let’s look at the moment. In this court, the one who is the closest relationship with the saint is Changsun Wuji, who often shows great trust.

If even such closeness and trust are hidden behind, Luo Yong can hardly imagine how terrible Li Shimin is, and how lonely his life is.

True loneliness is not the loneliness when you are alone, but the fact that you have friends in a noisy world, but you are close to others but cannot have a heart-to-heart relationship.
