20. The Three Qualities of Temperament

Han Yu didn't expect Gao Yue to have a straight ball and let him talk about his opinion on him.

However, Han Yu has never been a person who conceals his thoughts. In order to answer Gao Yue's questions, he first explained his "three sexes" and "three loves":

"Nature is born with the five ends of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom and trustworthiness. The top-grade person has five ends when he is born. As long as he focuses on one end in his life, the other four ends will naturally be accompanied by it. The middle-grade person has one of the five ends. If one is missing, the other four ends will be mixed and impure; the lower-grade person has no five ends. Not only that, as long as he violates one end, the other four ends will be completely lost. It has been said that the nature of a saint cannot be named (meaning that the nature of a saint is natural); and the fighting shavings (lower-grade evil people, similar to the human dough), nor can they be named (meaning that it is useless to talk about their heart-to-heart).

The nature of a middle-aged man is like a silkworm or an egg. Silkworms must be boiled and poured into silk after the soup is poured into soup. The eggs hatched for twenty days before they become young. The nature must be taught to be good before they can be good. The sacred man Wang Chengfu, a middle-level man, is simple and natural, and has self-knowledge, but it is just simple. He knows that he loves himself but does not harm others, but cannot harm himself and loves others, so he lacks lessons and cannot reach the top level. The former coach Li Qi, who is a lower-level man, has no compassion, no shame, no disgust, no right and wrong, only knows that he harms others and riches himself, and has all the five ends, so he finally gets the disaster of overturning himself, which is a sin that deserves."

When Gao Yue heard this, he nodded slightly, and then asked Han Yu: "Li Qi is in charge, there are tea owls and salt gangs, what kind of product is this?"

Han Yu was obviously prepared. He said loudly: "The middle-class people need the teachings of the best sages, so in the Tang and Wu era, the people naturally do good, and in the quiet era, the people naturally do evil. The tea owl and the salt bandits were originally innocent people in the government, and they took risks. Is this the responsibility of the people? No, it was Li Qi, a low-class evil man, who naturally led to the tea owl and the salt bandits. After Wei Gong calmed down Jiangdong, the people lived and worked in peace, and even the phoenix flew back to live. This is an excellent example of the top-class good lesson."

Gao Yue couldn't help but laugh, pointed at Han Yu, and pointed at himself, "It seems that Tuizhi is considering me as the best. I don't know which end I think is the one I specialize in the five ends?"

"Duke Wei is specialized in wisdom." Han Yu made a clear judgment, but his tone changed immediately. "Although Duke Wei is the best in terms of sex, he can only be considered a medium-grade in terms of love."

"Oh... please leave and talk to me."

"The three grades of love are divided into three grades: upper, middle and lower. First of all, we must say that no matter what grade, there are seven kinds of emotions in human beings: joy, anger, sorrow, fear, love, evil, and desire. The seven top-grade emotions are just right in the movement and stillness, and are completely in line with virtue and never exceed the rules; while the middle-grade emotions are either too much or too little when they are activated; as for the lower-grade ones like Li Qi, they are completely entitled to their feelings, regardless of their character, and will destroy themselves."

Gao Yue thought about it and asked Han Yu, "What are my love too much and what are not enough?"

"The joy is too much, the anger is too much, the love is too much, the desire is too much. But the sorrow is too little, the fear is too little, and the evil is too little."

Speaking of this, the three of them stood on the Gaogang of Guangling and were silent.

Only the thunderous sound of the Yangtze River entering the sea came from afar.

Han Yu's evaluation is that Gao Yue is too happy and angry, and sometimes he will kill (or be promiscuous); and love is also too much. Of course, this feeling in Gao Yue's heart is for his lover and children, but in Han Yu's eyes, it is different. He believes that Gao Yue lacks moral lessons and order constraints to the people, and is overly keen on allowing the people to increase their wealth, which is contrary to Confucian doctrine. For example, Gao Yue recently introduced a new cotton loom from the Qianghuo of Xingyuan Prefecture. The efficiency has increased tenfold. He began to promote cotton fields in Huaiyang and rewarded several Qiang women with 500 stag, saying that it was a "patent" and would give it to him again in the future. This trick made Han Yu a little scared, and he was afraid that people would eventually become servants of things.

The three things that are not as good as sad, fear, and evil are in Han Yu's eyes. Gao Yue sometimes lacks awe of the order of Taoism, and sometimes lacks the principle of jealousy of evil. His conflict with Li Qi is not as clear as black and white, but more similar to the difference between gray and white.

After a while, Liu Zongyuan broke the silence.

Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan have that kind of personality, and their knowledge is very consistent and they appreciate each other, but they cannot be like-minded friends.

The two have too many differences in their beliefs and opinions.

Liu Zongyuan asked Han Yu: "Since Tui said that benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom and trustworthiness are born with, then there should be low-grade fools, but why do you say that low-grade fools cannot teach you a lesson?"

Han Yu replied: "The low-grade fools do have five ends, but they have nothing, but they cannot hold them up. So I said before that as long as they violate one end, the other four ends will be completely lost. Moreover, it is inevitable and destined for the low-grade fools to violate their virtues. Therefore, even if they are born with five ends, they do not need to be guided by them."

Liu Zongyuan felt that what Han Yu said was indeed reasonable. At least he was justified and perfectly patched the contradiction between the theory of good nature and evil nature. Then he asked Han Yu: "I said again that people in the third grade all have seven kinds of joy, anger, sorrow, fear, love, and desire. However, these seven emotions and six desires may destroy virtue. Instead of promoting the soup to stop the boiling, why not remove the firewood from the bottom of the pot and completely abandon these seven emotions in order to cultivate virtue?"

Han Yu said to the point of tit: "Emotion itself is naturally born from nature. The so-called "emotion does not affect itself, but emotions are due to nature." Since this is the case, if there is nature, there must be sentiment. Nature is like a vessel, and emotion is like wine. If there is no wine, there is no real thing. If there is no wine, there is no name. It depends on whether it matches it. How can it be cut off? Zihou said that all the evil sayings of the Sangmen Buddhist teachings say that Buddha nature is divided into two parts and human feelings. We must cultivate Buddha nature and abandon human feelings, and believe that Buddha is purity, and human feelings are defilement. After purity and defilement, we can become Buddhas. Therefore, Buddhist monks do not talk about benevolence, righteousness and etiquette.

Zhixin, who does not say joy, anger, sorrow, fear, and love, automatically falls into the lower grades of nature and feelings, is full of evil spirits! Even the sacred man Wang Chengfu knew that growing corn, planting mulberry and hemp, weaving clothes and walls like him are all mutually nourishing relationships. In life, either efforts or intentions are great love. But the sacred monks are just practicing Buddhism, not doing anything, accepting donations from the government and offerings from the people, so-called forbidden mutual birth and nourishment, and inhumanity. After their death, if the Lord of Yan has a god, he will be the first to enter the hell of tongue pulling!"

Han Yu deserves to be a bloody battle with Buddhist Taoism from Xingyuan to Chang'an and then to Huaiyang. He has never had anyone to be vain in the face of the difficulty of scolding and debate. The so-called third-grade combo hit Liu Zongyuan was dumbfounded.

Liu Zongyuan's family has always believed in Buddhism, especially those who are fascinated by Pure Land Sect and Zen. When he was in Eyue with his parents, he came into contact with Mazu Daoyi, the ancestor of "Hongzhou Zen" who was very prosperous at that time. At that time, Li Jianxin, the Eyue Tuanlian Observation Order, and his father-in-law Liu Zhen and his father-in-law Yang Ping (Yang Ping is also a lay disciple of Hongzhou Zen Master Chan Ruhai). Even Gao Yue's confidant Quan Deyu believed that he was a lay disciple of Mazu Daoyi. Now the Tianzhu Mountain Zen monk, who helped Gao Yue build the canal in Jiminggang, was also a member of Hongzhou Zen. And Liu Yuxi needs to be said.

Therefore, Liu Zongyuan wanted to refute.

But Han Yu directly attacked him with a critical blow: "Since the son is full of love, why should he go to Ezhou to attend the funeral? What kind of Buddha nature is this father-son relationship?"

Liu Zongyuan said nothing at all.
