Chapter 21 Investigation

The next day, the weather suddenly changed, and the temperature dropped sharply while the cold wind whistled.

Although it was a weekend, the governor still had no time to rest and left the official residence early.

In the morning, Evan reopened the cram school, and Virginia was once again in the torture of the "hell" of mathematics. After lunch, Evan left the official residence.

Today is the day when Chester Carlson's "baggage" arrives. The luggage is quoted, which means it is not ordinary clothing or something, but Carlson's original accumulation over the years, including experimental materials, testing equipment, and "electronic photography" prototypes he made, which are all the results of his own research for many years.

One of the purposes of Evan's trip was to get a sneak peek and figure out what step Carlson has already studied so as to prepare for sharing his experience with him tomorrow after receiving Carlson himself.

In addition, Evan also wanted to see what the conditions of the laboratory Carl prepared for Chester was. If he lost this place and finally lost it, it would not be very embarrassing.

Of course, Evan would never admit that the real reason why he asked Carl to take him to the laboratory was that he suddenly remembered that the laboratory had been built, but he, the investor, didn't even know its address.

Sitting in the Ford Model 91 sedan that Ford had left the war before the war, Evan tightened his clothes uneasy.

Carl has good driving skills, and his hands are very stable with the steering wheel. He is not fast and he doesn't have many cars on the road, but he can't hold on to the seat belt.

The simple and effective protection measures of seat belts are currently only used in flight equipment. It will take ten years to be used by cars. The comprehensive legislation requires that it wait until 1968.

Of course, this is not the first time Evan has taken this vehicle that seems unsafe to him. He also knows in his heart that the chance of an accident is very low, but his inner uneasiness can't be eliminated. Every time he takes a car, he is fully focused and tense.

At this time, among several major travel modes, aviation is mainly used for cargo transportation, and the safety, comfort and price of manned passengers are prohibitive. Railways are both cheap and safe, but are mainly used for long distances. As for cars, because of their convenience, they will definitely become the main transportation tool for those with proprietors.

Evan is no exception.

Therefore, for the sake of his own life, Evan felt more and more necessary to try to "restore" the safety.

I believe Ford is very willing to pay for it.

Just as Evan was thinking about it, Model91 went east along H Street. Soon, the buildings on the road gradually became sparse. After passing by a church, the car finally stopped in front of a two-story flat roof.

After getting off the bus, Evan looked around. The building was empty and dry grass was everywhere. There was a construction site across the road. Many workers were working on it. Not far from the road was a river. Evan pointed at the front river and asked Carl, "Is that the Ameriga River?"

"That's right!" Carl replied, introducing: "This building turned out to be a warehouse. The two floors have more than 5,300 square feet (about 500 square meters). It may be a bit larger in size for the laboratory, but the price is very cheap and the modification is simple, so I bought it."

Evan touched the sign hanging at the door, turned around, looked around, frowned and asked, "Save money, but don't you think this place is too remote?"

"And the construction is underway, will it affect us? For example, dust, noise, etc."

"Whether the working environment is comfortable will directly affect a person's work enthusiasm, and these must be taken into account."

Evan suddenly made a lot of opinions, and Carl was a little confused, as if he had returned to the day when the professor suddenly asked questions in college class. However, after all, after some experience, he quickly calmed down and replied one by one: "Evan, it is not a bad thing to be remote. It can make it convenient for us to keep it confidential. Moreover, the transportation here is convenient and it is not considered remote."

"The residence I prepared for Carlson is not far from here. If he has convenient legs and feet, it will only take more than ten minutes to walk."

"As for the possible impact of construction, I did not consider this, but it doesn't matter. It's not too late for us to find a solution after Carlson himself feels there will be inconvenience."

"In addition, in fact, that construction site was one of the reasons that prompted me to buy it."

"Hmm? Is there anything special about the things built there?" Evan asked curiously.

Carl asked in surprise: "Ah? Evan, do you really not know?"

Evan blinked and asked in a daze: "Do I know?"

Seeing that Evan was really not clear, Carl smiled and said proudly: "On the surface, it looks very ordinary, but in fact it is a school built there."

"School?"

"That's right!" Carl nodded and stressed: "And it's a university."

"You know, as the capital of California, the highest institution of learning is nothing more than a city college and a farm (actually an agricultural school), plus a small law school. So, as early as twenty years ago, Sacramento people wanted to set up a local university, but unfortunately this idea has not been realized for various reasons."

"But now it's different."

“After several councillors were running, with the support of UC President Gordon Sproul and Governor Earl Warren, the Sacramento people will soon realize their wishes.”

"According to the news I received, the new school belongs to the state university system, it should be called Sacramento State University."

"Oh, I get it."

After listening to Carl's explanation, Evan suddenly realized.

No wonder Carl felt that.

That's right. Evan, the two bigwigs who endorsed the university, are so familiar that they can't be familiar with each other. It's not surprising that he received the news.

Carl was secretly surprised that he was actually more informed than Evan.

Evan seemed to see the question in his heart and smiled: "Mr. Governor rarely talks about work at home, and I don't care about this, I don't know what's strange about this. Can you care about the men in the Senate and the House of Representatives every day when you are in high school?"

"That's right!"

"That's it!" Evan patted Carl's arm and said affirmatively: "You are doing a good job in the laboratory. Let's stop blowing the cold wind here. Go in and take a look. After watching it, finish the work."

"yes!"

I have to say that Carl's work is even better than Evan imagined, and he has everything in the laboratory. Evan doesn't know how Carlson feels after seeing it, but he is very satisfied anyway.

After the "acceptance" laboratory, Evan spent another hour observing the prototype made by Carlson, and then he knew it before returning.

When the Ford stopped in front of the official residence, the clock hand pointed at exactly five o'clock.

"Thank you for your hard work, see you back!"

Watching Carl drive away, Evan turned around and nodded to the guards who were standing guard at the official residence before entering the gate of the official residence.

Walking into the house, the oncoming heat made Evan feel comfortable.

"Nina, I'm back!" Evan shouted loudly in the corridor leading to the living room.

The response to him was a strange and familiar female voice.

"Evan, you're finally back!"

The voice came from far to near, and a few moments later, a girl wearing a lace princess dress with dazzling blonde hair and a pretty face and a tall nose appeared in front of Evan.
