Chapter 1 I want to play basketball
"What? Are you going to quit?"
A young man sitting in an office with a middle-aged man.
This office looks no different from the ordinary, with some documents, a large sofa, a TV and a desk, without any decorations.
Just looking at this office, no one would think that this is the dean’s office of Mayo Medical Center.
Minnesota, the headquarters of Mayo Medical Center, is the Mecca holy place of medical circles, and the fascination of all doctors.
Seth Michaels looked at the young man in front of him in surprise, not knowing why the other party wanted to resign.
Being poached? Impossible. Mayo Center is the best hospital in the world. This young man is the youngest and most talented surgeon in Mayo Center's history. The hospital gives him the highest salary in history. He can select patients and instruct colleagues at will. As long as he accumulates a few more years of experience, the future will not be just about wrestling death in the operating room.
"Mo, are you serious?"
Michaels asked seriously with a calm face.
If it were someone else, Michaels might not hesitate and agreed to his request on the spot.
Every year, one thousand elites from major medical schools sign up for the Mayo Center, and only one hundred of them received internship invitations, and no more than ten people stayed.
All of them are the most promising doctors.
Mayo Center is not short of good doctors, and it’s no big deal to leave one or two.
But the person in front of Michaels is different.
We have all heard stories about child prodigy. Some people graduated from college at the age of 22, while others became doctoral students at the age of 14.
This young man is such a genius.
He was originally a well-known basketball player in the United States. Successive disasters destroyed him. He used his only time to complete his college homework, obtained his degree at a terrible speed, and entered the Mayo Center with the recommendation of several authoritative experts. After one year of internship, he made a mistake in a surgeon and almost killed the patient on the operating table. He took the surgeon's scalpel and saved the patient in a way that others could not imagine.
At this point, he was famous all over the United States and passed the assessment a few months later and became a surgeon at the Mayo Center.
In the past year, he has performed nearly a hundred surgeries, but none of them have failed.
He is the kind of person who makes people feel sincerely that "he will change this era".
And now, this young man, who is only 22 years old, is leaving the best hospital in the world.
"I'm serious."
The young man said.
"Mo, I need to know the reason." Michaels said.
The young man smiled, that kind of helpless smile. He had already prepared to say something, but now he was still a little embarrassed to say this.
However, how can such a classic line be hidden and not spoken?
"I want to play basketball."
The young man said.
Michaels breathed hard, and he had thought about many possibilities - he might think that his salary was too low, or that he might think that his work was too busy, or that other hospitals provided undeniable treatment...
Michaels never thought that this young man would give up his career for basketball.
No, basketball was his original career, but that was already past.
"Mo, your knees have experienced three ACL tear, and you even encountered it once two years ago... Do you know what that means?"
"Basketball is a thing of the past for you. Mo, you are the most talented doctor I have ever met. You have a bright future. It's time to let go!" Michaels said.
"Do you want a glass of water?"
The young man asked.
"Are you thirsty?"
The young man stood up and poured a glass of warm water: "When I was very young, I knew what I would do in the future."
"My father once held a basketball and a toy scalpel in front of me, and I chose basketball without hesitation."
"Injuries once defeated me, but it did not kill my soul. I now think clearly that I want to play basketball."
Michaels said: "But your knee is very fragile, and you don't even know when it will be traumatized again because it can't bear the impact of intense exercise. Mo, you should know what you will face if your knee is injured again."
“Spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair, I know.”
"Seth, have you ever thought about it?"
The young man asked Michaels, "If I was willing to take such a big risk and give up my bright future and pursue an illusory dream, then how determined am I and how much do I like basketball?"
"I'm determined, Seth."
At this moment, Michaels was very powerless. He hoped that he could get supernatural powers that could control people's hearts, so that he could change the mind of this genius.
He knew very well what would happen to this decision.
"Mo, I will not reply to your resignation application for the time being. I will give you three days. You can think about it when you go back." Michaels said.
The young man walked to the door and said, "Seth, thank you for taking care of me over the past two years."
After saying that, he walked out of this ordinary office.
Michaels stared at the resignation letter on the table.
He has seen these four words many times. It is not uncommon for doctors at Mayo Center to switch to other hospitals. Some good doctors cannot see the signs of rising, so they have to think about themselves.
They are just ordinary doctors at the Mayo Center, while in other hospitals, they may be the chief doctors who are trusted by the top hospitals.
They will receive the best treatment and the most noble favor, and few people will reject this temptation.
Therefore, Michaels often sees these three words.
Resignation letter.
Signature: MoMeng chen.
......
Mo Mengchen walked out of the dean's office and went to the bathroom nearby.
"Mo, have you handed the letter to Seth?"
A person walked out of the bathroom. He knew Mo Mengchen and seemed to be an extremely young doctor.
“As you wish.”
Mo Mengchen continued to wash his hands. He had washed back and forth five times, as if his hands were covered with dirt.
"I'm not happy if you say that, man, I really hope you stay."
"If I stay, people will never know that there is a good doctor named Kay Simas in the Mayo Center."
Simas asked, “Don’t you really want to be a doctor?”
"I want to play basketball more." Mo Mengchen answered him.
“What a pity,”
Simas sighed: "From then on, a good doctor has been lost in the world that has caused death a headache, and a mediocre basketball player has been added."
"Hmph, let's see!"
