After the dialogue with Shuangma, the entire Internet conference began to become lively. After Rebs, the Red Champion, and Luo Huizi's various speeches suddenly came to his mind, what Zhou Yujie said became the core of the discussion.
Basically everyone knows that Zhou Yujie invests in the electric vehicle field. Although the investment is more radical, no one thinks this is a shift in strategic direction, because the billions of early investment may be a lot of money for new forces such as NIO and Ideal to build cars, but for Zhou Yujie, it is just a drop in the bucket.
Just like Apple has been circulating in 2013, it may be just an expansion with potential. The difference is that Apple has to find someone to produce, and the conditions are extremely harsh. It has to find the top ten large automobile groups to produce, but there has been no practical progress. Zhou Yujie directly entered the manufacturing industry and built his own factory, which is the opposite of the light asset model of Toutiao.
But after a conversation at the Internet conference, everyone realized that Zhou Yujie not only wanted to build cars, but also spent tens of billions to build charging stations across the country.
In fact, many people also know that when the development of electric vehicles is a global development trend, there will definitely be returns, but when it comes to physical investment, no matter how high the return rate is, it is far from comparable to the IT industry. Therefore, venture capital is not active, but Zhou Yujie personally launched the campaign, obviously not for profit, but for supporting services for electric vehicles.
As for the data analysis of photovoltaic power generation mentioned earlier, since it will not involve building factories or building power stations by yourself, if it is purely research and development, it is hard to say how much capital resources are invested, but depending on the attitude, it should also be taken seriously.
As long as the so-called "biological cloud big data plan" seems to work, it is too complicated and it is really doubtful whether it can be done. However, many people still think it is very good to have such an idea of solving life problems for humans.
The discussion outside was bustling. In a single-family villa near the river in Wuzhen, Zhou Yujie was basking in the sun and fishing with Lin Youde and others.
"The discussion outside is getting more and more outrageous. Some people almost say that Mr. Zhou, you are planning to build the Rockets like Musk." Lin Youde said with a smile while fishing.
Zhou Yujie shook his head and said, "Even if the policy allows it, I won't try it. This is impossible."
In the human business model, many people are one step too late and have no chance. This is the case with software with strong Internet exclusivity, and in the physical industry, the same is true for chips. When the pioneer succeeds, the cost and technological advantages are too great, and the people behind are basically impossible to catch up.
The same is true for rocket technology. When SpaceX technology matures, it can easily monopolize the space launch industry. Zhou Yujie knows that in 20 years, 70% of the world's commercial aviation launches will be monopolized by SpaceX, and others will not even have a chance to get a share of the pie. SpaceX will use the profits of this industry to continue to optimize itself, reduce costs and improve efficiency. Later generations basically have no chance unless SpaceX makes mistakes.
The reason why others in the electric vehicle industry have opportunities is because the market is too big and Tesla is very successful, but the speed of increasing production capacity makes it unlikely to monopolize this field. However, if nothing unexpected happens, the number one in the future will basically not be able to escape.
This is actually the market's reward for those who dare to be the first to try it out.
Lin Youde nodded and said, "Mr. Zhou, according to your request, I have registered a new energy research center in Shangshanghai, Yanjing, Shenhai, and Chongqing. I have notified the headhunter to start preparing to recruit the heads of the four centers."
"Okay, the treatment is not a problem. I want the best talent in the country." Zhou Yujie said with a smile.
Talents in the physical industry, even high-tech talents, are actually not as good as the Internet. As long as they offer the price that Internet companies are willing to pay, they can attract enough talents.
Lin Youde asked: "Then what is the direction of each of these four research centers?"
Zhou Yujie said: "The Shanghai Research Center is close to our headquarters and has a strong advantage in data, so what we are studying is how photovoltaic power can be connected to the network in the best way. The final research direction is that the output end of the photovoltaic power supply can be similar to that of a normal thermal power station.
The main directions of Yanjing, Deep Sea and Chongqing are materials, monocrystalline silicon, polycrystalline silicon, thin film power generation, photothermal power generation, and make every effort to reduce manufacturing costs and power generation efficiency."
Lin Youde thought for a while and said: "Although it is difficult to develop and output power supplies, there is always a direction, but it may be difficult to study materials. Western countries have been studying this aspect for decades."
"The West has been studying the battery for a hundred years. Are CATL and BYD different in China? Now the manufacturing technology of lithium batteries is no worse than that of overseas countries in China." Zhou Yujie said: "When Wang Chuan and Zeng Minqun also took great risks to start their own businesses, and they achieved today's achievements. Relatively speaking, we have no shortage of R&D funds, which is already very good."
"That's true. Are we now betting on solar photovoltaic technology?" Lin Youde asked.
Zhou Yujie nodded and said, "It can be said that in the new energy track, we are too late to enter the new energy track, and now there is only one photovoltaic that is still immature in technology."
The core of new energy is from input to output, that is, from power generation, transmission, storage, and terminal use.
In terms of transmission, China itself has ultra-high voltage transmission technology, which is the basis for large-scale solar power generation. Otherwise, the solar power supply thousands of kilometers away will consume too much when it reaches the city, and the significance of new energy will be much smaller. Not only in China, but also in other countries, because the distance between cities that need large-scale electricity consumption and cities that can create clean energy (solar energy, wind energy) on a large scale is generally very, very far away.
Power conservation technology is naturally a battery. At present, CATL and BYD have great advantages in this area and has entered this field earlier. There are also a few special fixed-site power storage technologies that can also be developed, such as high-voltage air power storage, water level potential energy power storage, etc. These costs are much lower and are suitable for use in specific places.
Terminal use refers naturally to transportation equipment, including cars, trucks, public transportation, ships, aircraft, etc. However, at present, only cars and some public transportation can use electricity, while others are still far away.
There is only one input terminal of energy, which is not stable at present. In theory, controllable nuclear fusion is the best choice, but unless there is a large-scale outbreak of technology, it should be unlikely to be realized. The premise of the outbreak of technology is to have a physical theoretical basis in this aspect. But the problem is that humans do not have physical theories in this aspect, and it is the ultimate to use special methods to control nuclear fusion in a short period of time.
Wind and water energy are too resistant to the geographical environment, and the total amount is small, and the risk of nuclear power is too great. The only thing that can replace firepower is solar energy.
But although solar energy has been developing for a long time, there has not yet been a revolutionary breakthrough. This is the only remaining path in the new energy track.
There are currently four modes of solar power generation. The simplest one is photovoltaic heat. A mirror gathers heat together to generate heat, and then takes away the heat through a specific liquid to boil water to generate electricity. The next three are photovoltaic power generation. The principle is similar. Monocrystalline silicon has a high efficiency but is expensive, and polycrystalline silicon has a lower efficiency but is cheaper. Photovoltaic heat in about 10 years is this kind of photovoltaic panel. The last film is special, has low cost, but has lower efficiency and has a fast decline. It is not cost-effective to use it to generate electricity, but it is still possible in some specific occasions.
At present, the cost of photothermal power generation is the highest, and there is basically no room for change. The other three require a lot of research, which may be able to gradually improve efficiency and reduce costs. Just like the battery renewal, I don’t know how many companies invested in it and finally bear fruit.
Lin Youde said: "BYD, CATL and Tesla all build their own factories and then carry out subsequent research and development based on production profits. If we only develop R&D like this, will we not be able to keep up with demand?"
Zhou Yujie smiled and said, "Don't worry, I just said before that there will be no mass production in the short term, but if there are really results in the future, I will naturally do whatever I want.
As for the supporting production issues, we can just acquire a smaller photovoltaic company, which will be used to experiment with various new technologies in the early stage, and also prepare technicians for large-scale production in the later stage."
