Chapter 159 Three Schools of Psychological Qi
"After studying science, there are roughly three results."
"First, believe in Neo-Confucianism and practice the so-called 'Heavenly Law'. In order to make the world more in line with the 'Heavenly Law' of Neo-Confucianism, these people will stubbornly demand that everything in the world operates according to 'Heavenly Law'. Anyone who does not conform will be rejected and denounced as 'heretic' by them, and wish they could completely eliminate it."
"The second is that they do not believe in Neo-Confucianism, but they still act under the guise of Neo-Confucianism, deceiving themselves and deceiving the whole world. These false Taoisms are more hateful than Taoist masters. They cannot believe a word of what they have said."
"The third is that they do not believe in Neo-Confucianism, and even refute Neo-Confucianism. Some of these people can even get out of the ruling of Neo-Confucianism and create their own knowledge. Wang Yangming and Liu Zongzhou are all such wise men!"
"If you learn Confucianism, just learn the mind. Never study theory, as it will destroy your own foundation."
Perhaps it was because he did not recognize Neo-Confucianism in his heart, or perhaps because of Wei Zhongxian's influence, Zhenren Ling Yue was extremely disdainful of Donglin's party and Neo-Confucianism. Instead, he praised Wang Yangming and Liu Zongzhou's mind studies more.
Although he did not fully accept Ling Yue Zhenren's statement, Han Sheng couldn't help but think of the "hereticism" that Feng Congwu often mentioned when he taught him the method of Neo-Congwu:
"Mr. Shaoxu was calm when he taught the method of mind. However, when he taught Neo-Confucianism, he often called it "hereth."
"From this point alone, Mr. Shaoxu is a little too paranoid in Neo-"
"No wonder Ling Yue Zhenren said he was a pity!"
Judging from Feng Congwu's attitude towards academic research and his spirit of practice, he was all capable of becoming a master. However, such a person has not become a master now, which shows that he may have been harmed by Neo-Confucianism.
I don’t know if I discovered this problem. After Feng Congwu taught Han Sheng the method of Neo-Congsheng, he asked Han Sheng to find his junior brother Liu Zongzhou to learn the method of "achieving conscience". What he thought was quite different from what he cursed the heretics of the mind when he taught Neo-Congsheng.
"Achieve conscience, this is the method of enlightenment that Wang Yangming comprehended from Mencius's theory of good nature."
"Mencius's theory of good nature is not recognized by everyone, and Xunzi's theory of evil nature is confronted by tit-for-tat. Wang Yangming believed that the mind was 'no good and no evil', and at the same time taught people to "know good and evil" to achieve the state of "achieving conscience."
"Wang Yangming is worthy of being able to understand this point, and he is the best person in the Confucian school in history!"
The Tao has no good or evil, no right or wrong. People are born from the mother body and are still innate people. The acquired good or evil right or wrong will naturally not exist in their hearts. Therefore, whether it is the theory of good nature or the theory of evil nature, they are not accurate enough. Wang Yangming’s words “no good or no evil” are more in line with people’s hearts.
However, if we only achieve this point, Wang Yangming can only be said to be a Taoist person. The important reason why he is a Confucian sage is because while he realizes that people's hearts are "no good or evil", he teaches people to "know good and evil", integrate knowledge and action, and achieve the state of "achieving conscience".
"If conscience has good or evil, then it is OK; if conscience has no good or evil, then it is OK."
"Just knowing that people's hearts are good and evil is not enough. We must also promote the good side of human nature, remove the evil side, and finally achieve the ultimate goodness-"
"Wang Yangming encouraged people to be kind by 'to achieve conscience', so he is a Confucian sage, not a Taoist sage!"
After understanding this, Han Sheng's curiosity about the method of learning the mind suddenly weakened a lot. Because he knew clearly that he believed in the concept of "no good or evil", and it was difficult to "achieve conscience" and become a good person or a wise man.
As for Neo-Confucianism, after hearing the analysis of Ling Yue Zhenren and recalling various criticisms of Neo-Confucianism in his previous life, Han Sheng also had no expectations for Neo-Confucianism.
"The three schools of psychological Qi that are popular in Confucianism are now. According to the so-called materialism and idealism in the previous life, the study of mind is subjective idealism, Neo-Confucianism is objective idealism, and Qi is simple materialism."
"Neo-Confucianism seems to be pursuing reason objectively, but fundamentally speaking, the 'normal principles' passed down by the two Chengs and Zhu Xi is idealistic."
"It is better to be completely idealistic than to study the mind, which is more beneficial to spiritual cultivation."
After excluding the study of mind and Neo-Confucianism, Han Sheng naturally thought of Qi in the three major schools:
"The three major schools of psychological Qi are the most declining, and are even often incorporated into Neo-Confucianism."
"But this science is closer to the Taoist method of refining Qi. Moreover, the theory of Qi is more consistent with the vitality and creation of all things in this world."
"If I practice Confucianism in the future, I should start with Qi learning!"
The most fundamental difference between Qi and Neo-Confucianism lies in the issue of the relationship between qi and qi. Neo-Confucianism was inherited and developed by Zhu Xi and others after the two Chengs, while Qi was rarely practiced after Zhang Zai. In addition, there are many similarities between the two subjects, so Qi is often incorporated into Neo-Confucianism and is not mentioned separately.
"Qi carries the truth, and the truth does not leave the truth."
"If you want to transform Neo-Confucianism and Confucianism, you should also start with Qi and change their cognition."
Compared to the "nature principle" regarded as the fundamental by Neo-Confucianism, Han Sheng believes more in the "nature principle" regarded as the fundamental by Qi. The principles of heaven are the two Chengs, and the principles understood by Zhu Xi may conflict with the real principles between heaven and earth. Qi exists between heaven and earth and can be transformed into all things.
"Taixu is qi, and qi gathers and becomes all things, and all things disperse and return to Taixu."
"The Confucian qi theory is more suitable for practicing both Taoist methods!"
Having vaguely understood his future path, Han Sheng began to discuss issues in Qi and the similarities and differences with Taoist methods with Zhenren Ling Yue.
Although Zhenren Ling Yue was a great master of Taoism, he had some knowledge of the three religions of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. After hearing Han Sheng’s thoughts, he was also moved and said:
"A hundred years ago, when Wang Yangming was not a sage, three of them were as famous as him and were called the Four Great Masters."
"Mr. Ganquan Zhan Ruoshui is the descendant of Mr. Baisha Chen Xianzhang. He is from the same lineage as Wang Yangming and is called Wang Zhan Xinxue."
"Although Mr. Luo Qinshun and Mr. Keino, Mr. Lu Qi, were the great masters of Neo-Confucianism, they actually practiced Qi science at the same time."
"If you want to practice Qi science at the same time, you can find the successors of these two people."
In this way, the two of them kept communicating their views on vitality, all things, and heaven and earth. Han Sheng gradually realized the great master's request to integrate the world and heaven and earth, and the unity of man and nature.
"A master must be able to enter the Tao to become a great master. Only in this way can he be united with a certain truth between heaven and earth, and his body can be integrated into heaven and earth."
"This Tao must be one's own understanding of heaven and earth. If something goes wrong, it may be like Mr. Donglin Gu Xiancheng in the future. It is difficult to go further and not to mention it, and it may even conflict with the principles between heaven and earth."
"My way, I have no clue yet!"
