Yellow River Station is the only polar scientific research station established by China within the Arctic Circle, and it is also the third polar scientific research station in China after Antarctic Great Wall Station and Zhongshan Station.

However, when it comes to Yellow River Station, it is really a bit tortuous.

In fact, the reason why the Yellow River Station can be built in the Svalbard Islands is to thank Professor Gordonyi in China.

In fact, the name Svalbard was still very unfamiliar with the Chinese before 1991. In other words, the Chinese forgot this place where China should have sovereignty for a full sixty-six years.

At the end of the sixteenth and early seventeenth century, the Dutch and British discovered the Svalbard Islands one after another. This archipelago with many whales and walruses began to enter the world's sight.

By 1858, the Finns discovered a large number of coal mine resources and other mineral resources on this archipelago, and the archipelago immediately attracted the covetousness of many European countries. People from many European countries began to enter this archipelago, including Norwegians, Russians, British, Germans, Swedes, Danes, etc. But the largest population was the Russians and Norwegians.

These people first hunted whales, walruses, seals on the Svalbard Islands, and then slowly began to dig out the island's mineral resources, and gradually formed immigrant towns one by one. The deadly small town built by Longyi, Barentsburg, Sveagagwäva, New Alesson and the former Soviet Union, and have been completely removed, are all the places where European immigrants first established their residences on the Svalbard Islands.

From the perspective of population and actual administrative jurisdiction, Norway and Russia seem to have a heavier weight. However, Norway has limited national strength after all, and Russia was in the period of revolution and civil war at that time, and had no time to look west. This was undoubtedly the best historical opportunity for the European and American powers who were unwilling to give up the interests of the Svalbard Islands. So countries hurriedly launched diplomacy, bargaining, and using many "isms" and "principles". After countless rounds, they finally reached a set of conditions that everyone could accept.

On February 9, 1920, 18 countries including Britain, the United States, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan.

The Spitsbergen Islands Administration Treaty was signed in Paris, namely the Svalbard Treaty. In 1925, 33 countries including China, the former Soviet Union, Germany, Finland, Spain also participated in the treaty and became the Allies to the Svalbard Treaty.

The treaty made the Svalbard the first and only demilitarized zone in the Arctic. The treaty recognized Norway "with full and complete sovereignty" and that the region "can never be used for the purposes of war". However, citizens of each Contracting State may enter independently and engage in legitimate production and commercial activities within the scope of compliance with Norwegian laws.

In other words, as a party to the treaty, China had already obtained an enclave in Europe in 1925. The Chinese had the full power to enter and exit the Svalbard Islands at will, and also had the power to build their own outposts there.

But unfortunately, this treaty was forgotten. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, I did not expect that there would be such a treaty that was extremely beneficial to China.

Until 1991, Professor Gordonyi was invited to Norway for polar scientific research, and saw the English version of the Treaty of Svalbard in the "Arctic Guide" presented by Professor Y. Ye Xin of the University of Bergen, Norway.

Later, when Professor Gordonyi brought the Treaty of Svalbard back to China, Huaxia realized that his country actually had such an enclave in Nordic Europe. In the end, Huaxia established the Yellow River Station in New Alesson in 2004 with this treaty.

That is, the polar scientific research station in front of us, which was originally converted into a dormitory building where the miners of Wangwan Company lived.

This building is one of the rare buildings built with reinforced concrete in New Aleson. After it was built in the 1940s, it was used as dormitories for the miners of Wangwan Company. Later, Huaxia and Wangwan Company signed a lease agreement and converted the building into Yellow River Station.

So this building does not have a grand gate. If it weren't for two white marble lions squatting in front of the door, it would be hard for Yang Jing and Princess to believe that this was the gate of the Yellow River Station - the gate was just a single door, which was no different from the doors in ordinary residents' homes.
