Chapter 67 City of fierce battles

How to make a game magazine with no popularity sell and sell?

Jester did think of a solution.

Because he knows who will buy game magazines. If he wants to sell a certain product, he only needs to know the target group of the product, and then he just needs to give his preference to these people.

So who are willing to spend money on game magazines?

It is very simple logical reasoning. Such a person is not just a game player, but must be a player who loves games very much. The thing that attracts such people the most is a good game.

So, Jester was wondering if he could give a trial version of the game when the magazine was first published, which is what later game companies called DEMO, and then use the Mars Entertainment signature to promote and hype it. At least players who like Mars Entertainment games will definitely be interested in this.

After all, it is the first PC game for Mars Entertainment?

Moreover, the trial version of this game is not sold separately, and can only be purchased with free gifts by purchasing magazines.

In this way, as long as you are interested in this game, players who want to play it will definitely buy a magazine. If your magazine is well-made, it will definitely retain a large number of players.

Moreover, the trial version can be done every few episodes, and the price of this episode can be slightly higher. After the sales and influence expand, it will not be limited to your own games, but also have games from other companies. Of course, this will inevitably not be free.

Of course, this kind of magazine may not make money in the early stages, but it can quickly open up sales and gain a large number of fans. For a magazine, nothing is more important than sales and share.

So, now the problem is.

What kind of game should I choose? Jester turned his pen with one hand, and the fingers of the other hand kept tapping the tabletop gently, frowning and thinking seriously.

First of all, this is definitely a PC game, not only because the buyers of game magazines are mainly PC games, but the most important thing is that there is no more suitable platform than PC.

Secondly, the production of this game cannot be too difficult. It must be completed by two or three people within a week or two weeks. For example, the scroll game is definitely not even thought about, it can only be a level-pass game with a still picture.

Finally, this game must be fun.

After thinking about it, Jester really thought of a more suitable game, "Battle-City", translated as "City of Fierce Battle", which is more widely known as "Tank War".

This game will be officially released next year. The production company is the famous Namco. At that time, in addition to the FC version, it was also released on Fujitsu's FM77 computer. However, the FM77 version was not popular, and the FC version has become an immortal classic.

This may also be the most popular game that domestic players have come into contact with. Basically, there are dozens of people in one, one lily, and one thousand eight in one cassettes. I can’t guarantee whether there is a super horse, but "City of Fierce Battle" will inevitably have it.

Based on Jester's experience of playing countless cards, this game and Bee are basically a repertoire of this type of cheating card.

The first yellow card game that Jester came into contact with was "City of Fierce War". Of course, he and his friends did not know what the two English words that appeared at the beginning of the game were. They only used the name "Tank War" that came from hearsay.

However, since you are going to make a trial version, there is no need to do some unnecessary functions.

For example, the map editor does not need to be added to the trial version. As for whether to add the two-player mode, Jester thought about it for a while and decided to add it. After all, this game is designed around the two-player game, and the selling point is also this. It is worth mentioning that this is also the first game on FC that can be operated at the same time. The previous ones, such as "Super Mario", were all 1P dead and 2P could only be played.

As for the other things in the original version, Jester thinks there is nothing to delete, but there is no need to keep the original thirty-five levels, only fifteen to twenty levels. First, it takes time to make so many levels, and second, as a trial version, you only need to make players think that this game is fun and you can't let them play more content.

Otherwise, how can the official version make money?

Of course, there will be an official version if there is a trial version. The official version of Jester is planning to design "Smoke Mountain Tank" modified and produced in China in the future.

Because "Smoke Mountain Tank" is completely modified and produced by a player who felt it was insufficient when playing "Fighting City", such modifications also make "Fighting City" more fun and playable.

Many players who have only played "City of Fierce War" may have such thoughts, or regrets when playing this game.

For example, when all the tanks on one side die, the tanks on the other side are quite wealthy. Why can't we "borrow" a car with our partner like other games, such as Conrat? For example, when the enemy tanks enter the grass and steal the cold gun and kill them, we will be angry and wonder why we can't burn the grass that blocks our sight? Also, the rivers in the game have become stumbling blocks at many critical moments. It's too late to go back to the long road. We are eager to watch the nest being destroyed by the enemy, and then we will complain about why the tanks can't cross the river? Also, why can't the props in the game be eaten by players? Can't the enemy tanks be eaten? Isn't this more fun?

Similar to the above, there are many things.

At that time, Fu Zan, the founder of Yanshan Software in China, was also the earliest senior game player in China and the earliest electronic game developer in China. It was because of the various shortcomings discovered when playing this classic game that he modified and created a game MOD type game similar to later generations based on "City of Fierce War". This is "Yanshan Tank". Of course, this game is unauthorized.

The memory of Fu Zan is more than that. The first secret book about electronic games he has read was written by Fu Zan. He also learned for the first time how to choose thirty people in "Contra" and how to choose 99 lives in "Sarroman Snake". At that time, this was Jester's proud secret skill. Every time he played with his friends, he always hid the handle and pressed it secretly, for fear that others would learn it.

The secret to this video game strategy is called "TV Game One-Tong". It was released in 1991. Its content and quality are very high. Once it was released, it caused a sensation and affected a whole generation. It was reprinted five times a year, with a total sales volume of nearly 240,000 copies, and countless pirated copies. This has to be said to be a miracle back then.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Fu Zan is also the first person to make a card. In 1984, he copied the famous game "River-Raid" on Atari 2600. He used his own tools to extract the program of this game, rewritten the flight path of the plane and then burned it again, opened the mold to make the card box, printed the stickers himself, named it "New Canal War", and then burned the remaining Atari games together to make the first card.

Jester also has a plan to return to China this time, just to see if he can find Fu Zan in China. He can invest in helping Fu Zan establish a game studio or game company in China. He does not want to make any good games. As long as he can train a group of real game designers for the future, it is enough. After all, in this era, it is extremely rare to have a talented game designer in the mainland. He can't bear to see Fu Zan, the only legendary figure in the history of Chinese electronic games, regretting the rest of his life in the future piracy tide.

"If you have the chance, Yanshan Software will definitely do original creation." Now that I think of the old Fu Zan recalling the resounding words he said in the past, Jester is also deeply touched. As a designer who loves infinitely for electronic games, who doesn't want to do original creations?

While thinking, Jester wrote the settings of this game on paper.

Of course, the settings are divided into two versions, one is the trial version. In addition to the game editor, it is basically the original Namco setting. Twenty enemy tanks are divided into four different types, and then there are five-star, shovel, clock, bomb, etc. The original props are continuously improved according to the improvement of the level. However, the addictive Jester who added the plot to the game, changed the logo of the player's headquarters to the American flag in order to increase the sense of immersion of the game. "City of Fierce War" which originally had no plot, also changed it to the Soviet armored forces launching a raid on the United States. The player controls the only two remaining tanks in this city to turn the tide and fight a soul-stirring decisive battle with the evil Soviet armored forces.

In the complete version, he imitated the "Smoke Mountain Tank", such as adding a flamethrower, which is the icon of a small pistol. Eating one is equivalent to eating five five stars, you can shoot concrete, eating two can burn the lawn, and adding new props and ships. After eating it, players can cross the river terrain and add the function of borrowing life. After the number of tanks on one side is consumed, they can play by borrowing the remaining number of tanks from their companions to play.

The most important thing is that Jester has further enhanced his ability to increase the optional difficulty system.

The game is divided into three optional difficulties by Jester.

It's normal difficulty, only the tank controlled by the player can eat props.

The difficulty of nightmare, both tanks can eat props. If the enemy eats a shovel, then the player's headquarters will reduce the defense level by one level. For example, the brick wall that was originally a red brick wall will disappear. If you have eaten a shovel, it will turn back to the brick wall. The defenseless headquarters will remain unchanged. Of course, if the enemy tank eats a bomb, all its own tanks will be destroyed.

Hell difficulty, only the enemy can eat props.

After writing these, Jester began to draw a few maps in "City of Fierce Battle" or "Smoke Mountain Tank" that he remembered. When he was a child, he played a lot of this game, and there were a few very classic maps. He still had some impressions. Based on his memory and some of his own understanding, Jester drew seven or eight levels of maps on paper.

Now there are no purchase points in the system in Jester's mind, so he can't play this game directly in his mind and then plagiarize the levels. But it doesn't matter. The level of the game "City of Fierce War" is not difficult to design. At that time, Fu Zan and the other three could make fifteen levels that were not inferior to Namco, so naturally his own designers wouldn't be able to do it.

In this way, Jester set the total number of levels in the official version of this game to the same fifty levels as "Smoke Mountain Tank". Of course, because this is a plot game, it is impossible for the player to return to the first level like the original version after playing fifty levels. Instead, Jester added a slightly rough CG similar to the FC version of "Ninja Dragon Sword" to the end of the game, to illustrate that the player won a great victory, defeated the evil Soviet Axis Group, and saved the United States.

This setting also makes players feel more accomplished.

Jester still remembers the shock he saw when he first saw the CG of "Ninja Dragon Sword". He believes that these players today will be the same.

In this way, Jester basically completed the framework design of this game. As for the specific numbers and level parameter settings, he naturally had his hands to complete the modeling. Moreover, because the interface of this game is simple, there is no complicated judgment. According to Jester's prediction, it can be completed in at most two weeks, and the trial version does not even take a week.

It just so happened that he was able to form a game magazine and publish the first edition of the magazine.
