Volume 4 Empire East Rising Chapter 83 The Otsumi Treaty

.Volume 4: The Empire’s East Rise Chapter 83: Treaty of Yisi

On April 15, 2011, Hongguang's 21st year, preparations for the Ming Dynasty's fleet to sail out of Europe were completed. On that day, the Shanghai port was crowded with people, and many people saw off for the Ming Dynasty's fleet to sail out of Europe for the first time.

The fleet that was sent to Europe this time was huge in scale, with a total of twelve warships, including two iron-clad ships with a displacement of 2,000 tons, and the rest were wooden ships with a displacement of more than 1,000 tons, with a crew of 6,562 and more than 700 cannons; 52 merchant ships, the smallest merchant ships with a load of 500 tons, most merchant ships with a load of between 800 and 1,000 tons, and 52 merchant ships with a load of more than 35,000 tons, and merchant sailors and others had a total load of more than 10,000 people.

The merchants of the Ming Dynasty showed great interest in this direct flight to Europe. If the court had not been pressed repeatedly, the merchant ships would have exceeded several times, and the goods would have exceeded 100,000 tons. This would have a great impact on Europe. With the current economic scale of Europe, it would never be possible to eat so much cargo in a short time.

Even 35,000 tons of goods cannot be digested in a short time in Europe. It is certain that after this direct flight, the price of Ming cargo in Europe will definitely drop. Of course, this decline is not entirely a bad thing, and more Europeans can afford Ming cargo.

This is another large-scale navigation in the Ming Dynasty since Zheng He voyages to the West. Although the personnel may be less than that, just in terms of the fleet tonnage alone, the scale of this navigation has exceeded the scale of the fleet when Zheng He voyages to the West, and the firepower is far beyond that at that time.

The two ironclad ships did not show up at the port, but only ten huge wooden warships were parked at the port, with their black muzzles oblique fingers, which were already majestic. Looking at these warships, the people on the shore all had a joyful look on their faces and indescribable pride.

The Europeans were not among the crowds of people who were pride and joyful, and they were much more complicated, and most of them were panic. Such a huge fleet appeared in Europe, and I wonder what changes it would bring to Europe.

"set sail"

On the flagship of the Fubo, Liu Guoxuan gave the order, and the flag on the ship immediately flew, and received a signal that all ships began to raise sails.

The Fubo is a first-class warship in the Ming Dynasty, with a displacement of 3,200 tons, a total of three decks, loaded with 108 cannons, and a full staff of 820 people. At this time, there were more than 1,500 entourages.

"Boom boom boom"

The salutes on the shore began to sound, and the ship moved slowly. People on the shore and on the boat waved desperately. There was no doubt that many of the people who came to see him off were relatives of sailors and crew members. It would take at least a year for them to reunite after separation.

A child who was only seven or eight years old on the Fubo number was also waving. He was the son of Shen Ruyu and named Shen Fuzong. He did not know that he was going thousands of miles away at this time, but he just felt it was fun to see everyone waving, so he learned to wave.

The team gradually drifted away, and from the point where they could not see the fleet at all, the talents on the shore left the port reluctantly.

Kobdo, teams of Mongolians were moving westward, driving their thin cows and sheep, and many people turned around step by step. When they saw a fire in Kobdo city, the migrant women and children burst into tears.

Since the beginning of spring, the Ming army has resumed its offensive against the Mongols. This time, the Ming army dispatched tens of thousands of troops. These troops were distributed on hundreds of kilometers of fronts with companies and teams, pressing towards the Junggar's troops with a scattered momentum.

The Junggar tribe, who had just passed the cold winter and was thinking of gaining weight for cattle and sheep, had no resistance to the Ming army's attack. The Mongols who escaped a little slower were captured by the Ming army and eventually became Han people.

Faced with the Ming army's offensive, Galdan, who had recovered thousands of cavalry around him, had no choice but to give up Kobdo's order.

Hearing the crying from women and children, Galdan, who had always been arrogant, couldn't help feeling sad. At present, the cattle and sheep have not yet gained weight. How can they withstand long-distance migration? Without cows and sheep, there are countless women and children who will survive. Thinking of this, Galdan's body shaking on the horse.

A slender hand held Galdan's waist. Galdan turned his face and saw that it was his wife Anu. Galdan squeezed a smile that was even worse than crying from his face and said, "Anu, am I useless?"

Annu was originally Sengge's wife. After Sengge's death, Galdan married this sister-in-law who was older than him according to the rules of the grassland. The two of them have been as loving as before for two years since they got married.

"No, Dahan, you're doing better than anyone else."

"Are you doing it well? Why did you fail so much and let you fall into the hands of villains like Cewang Alabutan? If you hadn't relied on the mediation of Dibasanje Gyatso, Boshoketujinon and others, you would still not be able to reunite?" Galdan's words were filled with fatigue. After all, he was still young, and his confidence would inevitably be hit in the face of successive setbacks.

"It's not your fault. The Ming Dynasty is too powerful now. Even if Genghis Khan is resurrected, this battle cannot be won." Anu said quietly. Her voice was not as rough as a grassland woman, but it sounded very gentle: "Being able to still have so many people support after a great defeat shows that Dahan's ability."

Annu's gentle voice suddenly relieved Galdan's self-blame, and his eyes sharpened again: "Anu, I originally wanted to defeat Beijing and live with you, but it seems impossible now. However, it is impossible for the Ming army to want Ben Khan's head. At worst, I will meet the Ming army. Ben Khan retreats thousands of miles away. The grassland is so big, where can I hide."

The Mongols gradually moved farther and completely threw Kobdo behind him. Three days later, the sound of horse hooves sounded, and an army wearing a red shawl came to Kobdo. They were a vanguard of the Ming army. The Ming army stopped in front of Kobdo gate, looking at the ruined city, with disappointment on their faces.

This Ming army did not stay for long, but just circled around the city and was sure that there was no one in the city. The Ming army quickly left. A few days later, the Ming army passed by Kobdo, but still did not stay for long. Some of these troops went south, which was in the direction of Dihua (note today's Urumqi); some went north, which was the Tannu Ulianghai; some continued to go west, which was the direction of Tarbachtai.

It was not until several months later that a group of nearly a thousand Han immigrants arrived here and soon a new castle would be built here.

In April of the 21st year of Hongguang, the Ming army occupied the important passage of Kobdo, and accelerated the occupation of the northwest direction, occupied the Tannu Ulianghai in May, occupied Besiebali in June, and in July, the Ming army advanced to Dihua.

After occupying Dihua, the Ming army did not continue to advance, but instead stationed in Dihua and began to strengthen Dihua City. In August, a group of more than 2,000 Han people moved from the Central Plains, and these Han people would settle down in Dihua.

After losing Dihua, the Junggar was divided into two divisions, and the Western Regions and Qinghai suddenly lost contact, and the connection with Tibet became difficult. Only then did Galdan realize that the Ming army was not only interested in the southern part of the desert, but also in the northern part of the desert, but also in the western region. In desperation, Galdan sent people to surrender to the Ming army and reiterated the request to be called a vassal.

The envoys of the Junggar Khanate had not yet returned in Nanjing, but Nanjing was too far from the Western Regions. Wang Fu directly ordered Li Yuanyin, the general stationed in Dihua, to negotiate with Galdan. After bargaining between the two sides, the agreement was finally drafted in November.

The agreement is divided into ten articles. The first article stipulates that Junggar's name is given to the country and Galdan's title of surrender can be passed down from generation to generation. All Mongolians must obey the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty. The Mongolians will not repent for generations.

Article 2 stipulates: The Junggar tribe recognized the direct occupation of land south of Dihua, and Qinghai was also directly under the Ming Dynasty. The Junggar tribe in Qinghai could be moved to various parts of the Western Regions, so the court did not leave any difficulties.

Article 3 stipulates that the Junggar tribe must pay 100,000 taels of silver, 100,000 sheep, 100 cows, and 100 horses to the court every year.

Article 4 stipulates that if the Junggar tribe changes its chief, it must be enthroned by the court. If the prince is ten years old, he must be sent to the capital to study Sinology. Before he reaches the age of twenty, he shall not return without the consent of the court.

Article 5 stipulates that the imperial court allowed bilateral trading with the Junggar tribe. Except for first-level commodities, the Ming Dynasty did not restrict the types and quantity of items traded by the Junggar tribe.

Article 6 stipulates that the Junggar tribe must protect the Han caravans' business in the Junggar tribe. The caravan has the right to walk freely in the Junggar tribe. When the caravan is attacked, the Junggar tribe must promptly pursue the murderer and hand over the captured murderer to the court for handling. The Junggar tribe's tax amount for the caravan must not exceed 30 taxes.

Article 7 stipulates that the Han caravan has the right to hire less than 300 guards. The weapons carried by the guards shall not be restricted except for cannons.

Article 8 stipulates that the Han people have the right to live in the location of the Junggar tribe, build houses, and purchase land. The Junggar tribe shall not use any excuse to resist, push,

Article 9 stipulates that the Han people have the right to mine ore in the Junggar tribe. The Junggar tribe may impose additional taxes depending on the circumstances, and the tax rate shall not exceed 30 taxes.

Article 10 stipulates that when the Junggar tribe is invaded, the court has the obligation to help the Junggar tribe resist the invasion, and the cost of the imperial army dispatched will be paid by the Junggar tribe.

The treaty is extremely harsh. Once signed, the Junggar tribe is worse than the Ming Dynasty's banished states. However, the Junggar tribe is not completely beneficial. At least it can completely move the Qinghai tribes to the Western Regions, and it can trade with the Ming Dynasty. The types and quantities of goods are not limited.

The mutual market has always been a powerful tool for the Central Plains to deal with nomadic peoples. The Central Plains do not have much demand for nomadic peoples, and nomadic peoples cannot do without the goods from the Central Plains. In order to force the Central Plains to trade, the Mongols have launched many wars. Once this treaty was signed, the mutual market was at hand.

But if it is not signed, as long as the Ming army continues to attack, the Junggar tribe may collapse if it cannot last for a few years. After several considerations, Galdan finally gritted his teeth and signed the treaty.

As soon as this treaty was signed, the Junggar Khanate was demoted to a local area and was no longer a country. Therefore, the name of the treaty was not the Ming and Mongolia treaty. This year was the year of Yisi according to the lunar calendar, and the court then called the treaty the treaty Yisi treaty.
