Chapter 634: Cultural Theory

Chen Duxiu, his educational views were called "beastism" in this era.

He believed that most young people who grew up under the old-style education "have no strength to tie a chicken, and have no heroic heart; have white face and slender waist, and are as charming as virgins; are afraid of cold and timid, and are as weak as sick as sick." How can such young people become pillars of the country?

Therefore, Chen Duxiu believes that correct education should enable people to grow in harsh environments like a "wild beast", so that they can "be tenacious will, fight and be unyielding; have a strong physique and resist nature; trust in instincts and live without relying on others; be straightforward in nature and not decorate false self-written".

Chen Duxiu's educational philosophy is obviously related to his experience in studying in Japan. This so-called "beastism" is actually another term for militarist education.

The great writer Lu Xun... was well written, but the Chinese people in his writings were extremely ugly, such as Ah Q, Kong Yiji, human blood buns, Runtu, who was quick at a young age but grew up but dull.

The meaning behind Mr. Lu Xun's portrayal of these characters is that the Chinese people who grew up under Chinese cultural education are like this. What Liu Zhenguo said, "They will make the Chinese people lose their will, blur their thoughts and unable to distinguish right from wrong"... This is actually quoted from Lu Xun:

Read more Chinese books, there are at least three disadvantages: First, the more Chinese books you read, the more you lose your will; Second, the more Chinese books you read, the more you want to take a stable path and refuse to take risks; Third, the more Chinese books you read, the more you make people confused and unable to distinguish right from wrong.

That's why Lu Xun educated young people: "If you don't read Chinese books, read more foreign books."

This phenomenon does not mean that Chen Duxiu, Lu Xun and others are not patriotic, or that the facts are just the opposite. They can be said to be patriotic young people who are eager to save China from the fire and fire.

But the problem is that they don’t know where the root cause of China’s fragility is, so they are anxious to seek medical treatment, thinking that the root cause is Chinese culture and Confucianism...

These ideas seem incredible to modern times, but they are very normal in this era and can even be said to be a mainstream idea.

The reason is that there is a living example in front of the Chinese... Japan.

Japan also faced the danger of becoming a Western colony in the mid-19th century. After seeing the declining China vulnerable to the fate of being divided in front of the great powers, they believed that Western civilization was a more advanced civilization, while China's Confucian culture belonged to a semi-civilized or even barbaric civilization.

So Japan chose to "get out of Asia and Europe" and completely abandon Confucianism and learn from the West in an all-round way. As a result, Japan successfully became a world power.

With such an iron-like fact in front of him, Chen Duxiu, Lu Xun and others were students studying in Japan influenced by this trend of thought, so they naturally believed that the reason why China is so fragile is that Chinese culture Confucianism.

If you look at it from a modern perspective, of course you know that these ideas are wrong, but if you grow up in that environment and see the success of Japan... I am afraid it will be difficult to not be affected.

Zhang Chi didn't know how to tell Liu Zhenguo and others for a moment, but Wang Mazi snorted and said, "It's really a scholar who ruined the country... If you said, reading Chinese books will make you lose your will and you won't fight... I feel that our expeditionary army is reading foreign books?"

"Commander!" Liu Zhenguo replied: "It is not an exaggeration to say that the Expeditionary Force is reading foreign books. As far as I know, are you trained by Americans in Myanmar? You use American weapons, British military uniforms, and the establishment of the US military... This just proves that our view is correct. Otherwise, why would the Expeditionary Force not win battles at home and win repeatedly when they go abroad?"

"You..." Wang Mazi couldn't help but tremble all over his body and cursed: "Damn, you mean that the victory we exchanged for with our blood and life is all the credit of the Americans..."

"Commander!" Zhang Chi stopped Wang Mazi.

It doesn’t make much sense to argue like Wang Mazi. If you continue to argue, you will probably end up together.

Zhang Chi also knew that Liu Zhenguo and others were not traitors and scums. They were patriotic young people in extreme thoughts, and they were also senior intellectuals they urgently needed. If they had a quarrel with these intellectuals at the beginning, there would be any "talents" to surrender in the future!

Looking at Zhang Chi's eyes, Wang Mazi hummed in a muffled voice and stopped talking.

Zhang Chi turned to Liu Zhenguo and others, bowed his hand with a smile and said, "The commander is straight and can't hold back anything in his stomach. Please forgive me!"

"I dare not, don't dare!" Liu Zhenguo and others returned the gift politely.

"But I have different opinions as Mr. Liu said just now!" Zhang Chi changed his tone and said to Liu Zhenguo: "If you say that, Chinese troops are trained by Americans and equipped with the US military to win battles, why do they...there are frequent positions that Americans cannot conquer the enemy, but the expeditionary forces can do it easily?"

Liu Zhenguo couldn't help but speak out when he heard this.

Wang Mazi was happy as soon as he heard this and continued, "Yes, yes... and the Americans also have better equipment, but they are soft-boys when fighting, so they always ask us to help their lives!"

"And..." Zhang Chi continued: "Mr. Liu believes that more advanced Western culture should also include Britain!"

"Of course!" Liu Zhenguo replied.

"Don't Mr. Liu know about the defeat of the British in Myanmar?" Zhang Chi said: "At that time, the entire front was basically led by Chinese troops. The British army only knew how to escape and invest in the enemy. At that time, the Chinese expeditionary force had just gone abroad and used Chinese equipment and Chinese military system. What would you explain about this?"

Liu Zhenguo replied a little embarrassedly: "This... one and two battles cannot explain anything!"

"Okay!" Zhang Chi nodded: "What you mean is that Chinese culture is barbaric and weak, so they are weak and unable to compete with the great powers. That's right!"

Liu Zhenguo nodded and replied: "That's roughly what it means!"

"So..." Zhang Chi continued: "Then the Mongolian destroyed the Song Dynasty, so the Mongolian culture must be superior to the Song Dynasty, so that the Song Dynasty can be destroyed?"

After hearing this, Liu Zhenguo and others were stunned, because everyone knew that the Mongolians at that time were real barbarians, while the Song Dynasty was an era when hundreds of schools of thought contend for literary tycoons emerged.

"There are also the Five Barbarians who invaded China!" Zhang Chi said: "If you don't talk about the distance, you will be the Qing Dynasty who destroys the Ming Dynasty... Could it be that the Manchus are also more culturally and more advanced than the Ming Dynasty?"
