Chapter 398: The Eight Banners of Mongolia Fiasco

When the Korqin Mongols crossed the river from Junzijin, they were again deterred from the Ming military chariot camp.

Relying on one thousand sled carts, the officers and soldiers of the San Thousand Vehicles formed the cart city wall on the north bank of the Yellow River. Various artillery, nine-headed bird muskets, and bird guns could make the Mongolian cavalry crossing the river overturn. The powerful twelve-pound field artillery shells hit the ice, and a crack immediately appeared on the ice. The hard and smooth ice surface greatly increased the power of the shells: the shells not only bounced, but also bounced even more happily. Each shell could bounce on the ice more than ten times before the kinetic energy would disappear. When the bouncing shells were hit, the people and horses would shatter.

There was a blockade in front and a pursuer in the back. Manzhu Xili ordered the Mongolian cavalry to cross the river regardless of his own efforts.

The ice surface, which was cracked by the shells, was crowded with people. Suddenly, a loud "click" sound was heard. A large hole was broken on the cracked ice surface, and the Mongolian cavalry crowded on the ice screamed and fell into the water.

The Mongolians who had crossed the river ahead did not dare to rush to the chariot formation. Only Jurchen heavy infantry could do such things as breaking the chariot formation. Using Mongolian light cavalry to rush to the chariot formation is tantamount to seeking death.

The muskets in the chariot array kept firing out projectiles, and the Mongolian cavalry who were running around the chariot array were knocked off the horse as long as they got closer.

It’s a pity that Wang Quan could not wipe out the Korqin Meng Eight Banners Cavalry because he didn’t receive any reports at night, saying that he was really a slave.

When the Qing scouts came to the Yellow River before, they saw the Ming army's chariot formation and immediately went back to report. So Dorgon ordered the dispatch of two thousand Manchu Eight Banners, three thousand Mongolian Eight Banners and one thousand Han Eight Banners soldiers to the river. The Qing army was powerful, and Wang Quan dared not fight, so he asked to order the sled cart to retreat.

Sled carts retreated east along the riverside, and the Qing army's eight banner heavy cavalry arrived in a short while.

Walking on the snow like the wind, each sled car is like a moving castle. The heavy cavalry of the Qing army dared not rush into the chariot formation. It would be like committing suicide if they wanted to break the chariot formation. To break the chariot formation, they could only be bombarded by Wu Zhenchao Ha Camp, and then attacked with heavy infantry to break it. However, the sled car was moving too fast, and even the cavalry could not catch up, let alone the infantry.

"Hurry up, set up your cannons! Bomb the car array!" Kong Youde yelled at the top of his lungs.

By the time Wu Zhenchao's camp finally set up artillery, the sled car camp had already run far away, and the shells fired by the Qing army landed far behind the camp.

"Chasing!" Qing general Shi Ertai shouted.

Two thousand Eight Banners Cavalry and three thousand Mongolian Eight Banners Cavalry were whipping up and chasing the retreating sledding convoy.

The retreating sled suddenly spewed out of the back sled, and the smoke filled the guns, and the sound of guns roared. The Ming army, sitting in the car, successively carried the Jiutou Bird heavy muskets, pulled the trigger, and pressed the fuse into the medicine pool, making a deafening sound. This heavy musket had a high accuracy at a distance of 100 steps. The Manchu Eight Banners heavy cavalry who rushed in front of the manchurian Eight Banners were spraying blood mists, and three layers of thick armor were like paper in front of the Jiutou Bird musket. This musket could even penetrate rough shields at close range, let alone three layers of armor. The Qing soldiers picked up the shield to cover it, but to no avail. Four-two bullets hit the shield, and the shield immediately turned into pieces of wood, and the projectiles that smashed the shield continued to penetrate the human body.

In addition to the Jiutou Heavy Musket, the Ming military vehicle camp also had light Folang cannons. The bullets fired were about the same size as those of the Jiutou Heavy Musket, but the Folang fired extremely fast.

Compared with the Nine-Headed Birth Musket, the disadvantage is that it is large in weight and launches bullets of the same weight. The Nine-Headed Birth Musket weighs only twenty kilograms, and the light-Headed Birth Musket is nearly hundred kilograms. However, for the van camp, the weight is not a problem.

The retreating camp continued to shoot projectiles backwards, and dozens of people were knocked down in succession.

The heavy cavalry of the Manchu Eight Banners wanted to detour and block the retreat of the chariot camp from the front, but they found that the other party retreated very quickly and could not detour and encircle them at all. So the Qing army ordered the light cavalry of the Mongolian Eight Banners to go around the flanks, trying to block the retreat of the chariot camp.

The Mongols flew around from the side, but did not get any advantage. Instead, they were shot down one after another under the fierce firepower of the chariot camp.

When dealing with the Eight Banners of Mongolian Banners who were almost in armor, the bows and crossbows shot from the chariot camp could defeat the Mongols like dumplings from afar.

The Eight Banners of Meng chased after a long journey, but found that he had suffered a great loss, so he didn't dare to chase him anymore. He could only watch the car camp rushed into the Yellow River and quickly retreated along the ice surface.

After retreating to naturalization, Man Zhu Xili ordered a count of the losses and found that only less than 10,000 people had returned from the 30,000 Eight Banners cavalry, and more than 20,000 were thrown on the south bank of the Yellow River. The lost people were either burned to death, killed or captured. In this battle, the Korqin tribe suffered too heavy losses.

"Minggou is really hateful! When we send troops in hot weather, our warriors are so hot that they are extremely hot; when we send troops in winter, they create such snowmobile again!" Dorgon, who had suffered losses in the car camp in Tongzhou area before, heard the report from Shiertai, and overturned the table in anger.

"Master, have we given up our naturalization and marched towards the west of the desert together? Only in this way can we capture Ezhe in one fell swoop!" Murtai offered his advice.

"Are you a pig's brain?" Dorgon kicked Murtai, "Naturalization is the only way for our army to transport food and grass. If we don't take down Naturalization and march rashly into the west of the desert, the enemy cut off our army's food and grass supplies, what should we do?"

In that battle two years ago, the Jin Kingdom was defeated so miserably, because Yue Tuo failed to defend the food and grass, which led to a large number of loyal and brave Jurchen warriors being lost on the grassland.

Dorgon passed the order: "Intensify the attack on the city! Be sure to take down naturalization within ten days!"

The Qing army once again began to attack Guihua City. More than half a month ago, Huang Taiji, who received a message from Dorgon, sent five thousand Wu Zhenchao Ha soldiers and ten thousand Aha to Guihua. King Shang Kexi led a large army to reinforce. Huang Taiji also sent Shang Kexi an imperial edict to hand him over to Dorgon. The imperial edict ordered Dorgon to take down Guihua within one month.

Dorgon ordered to increase the intensity of the siege. When Shang Kexi arrived, in order to move forward lightly, he could arrive at Naturalization as soon as possible. He did not carry the red artillery, but carried a lot of Folang aircraft and field artillery. The Qing army outside the city set up various small artillery and attacked Naturalization day and night.

After dark, torches were lit under the city wall, and soldiers from both sides fought fiercely at night.

The defenders fought very tenaciously. The Qing army, who attacked the city with Baoyi Aha and the Eight Banners of Han, left corpses all over the ground under the city. The City of Guihua is located in the middle of the grassland, and there are no trees nearby that can provide the Qing army with large-scale siege weapons. The Qing army has no way to use such a small city.

Whenever the Qing army's artillery fire broke the city wall into a bumpy pothole, Li Hong ordered water to irrigate the city wall at night. In winter, naturalized water turned into ice, and the water poured from the city head quickly freezes. A protective layer of ice was formed on the outside of the city wall, which not only reduced the damage caused by shells to the city wall, but also made the city wall smoother and made the Qing army more difficult to siege the city.

Even when the Qing army was sieging the city, a bucket of water was poured on the top of the city. The water was poured on the Qing soldiers, and the cotton armor was penetrated and the cotton coats inside were wet. The cold made the Qing soldiers tremble. Some Qing soldiers were frozen directly under the city, and were poured on their bodies by the water dripping from their heads and frozen into icicles.

The Qing army's collision car rushed to the city gate and struggling to hit the city gate. A huge rock weighing more than 300 kilograms was smashed on the top of the city. These huge rocks were tied with iron chains and could be reused. The huge rocks were smashed down one by one, flattening the collision car.

Seeing that Guihua City could not be captured for a long time, Shang Kexi offered a plan: "Master, my servant has a clever plan, and he will definitely be able to defeat Guihua."

"What a clever plan?" Dorgon was overjoyed.

Shang Kexi said: "Since the defenders can use water to strengthen the city walls, we can also use water to freeze to build the fish beam road."
