Chapter 124 Fighting the White Horse Temple
The white horse took a relaxed small step forward on the official road.
Huo Yuanzhen sat upright and looked at Xiaoxue in the sky, feeling a little like dandruff that hadn't been shampooed for a long time.
In this life, this trouble is gone, it’s great.
Not far from Dengfeng to Luoyang, even if the white horses stop and stop, one day is enough.
Originally, Yichen said he would go to Luoyang with Huo Yuanzhen to attend the consecration ceremony of Qiyun Pagoda in the White Horse Temple, but Huo Yuanzhen thought about it and finally didn't take him.
Because of that letter!
This time, there will be dangers when you go to Luoyang!
Although Yichen is a good combat power, since there are people setting up an ambush, so many innate early stages will not play any decisive role at all.
Moreover, Huo Yuanzhen believes that with his own skills, his ability to escape is definitely not inferior to anyone. If he really can't beat him and run away, he will not be worried.
There was a big bag behind me, which contained a cassock for supporting the storefront, a life-saving Dayuan Dan, a golden sore medicine, and a Buddhist scripture that you can usually read in front of others.
Anyway, I have read several Buddhist scriptures, and I have understood them all, and I am full of knowledge, so I am not afraid of being exposed to the painting.
Although I knew there would be danger, Huo Yuanzhen still thought this trip to Luoyang was very necessary.
Because this is the best opportunity to promote Shaolin Temple, and it is also a good time for fellow Buddhists to pay attention to themselves. If they perform well and gain recognition from everyone, Shaolin's status in Buddhism will be greatly improved.
Baimatian set out in the morning and arrived at Luoyang in the evening.
******************************
White Horse Temple is about twenty miles east of Luoyang City. It is already late now, so Huo Yuanzhen did not go to White Horse Temple. He did not enter the towering Luoyang City. He stayed in the small inn outside the city for one night. He left the next morning.
When he went to White Horse Temple, Huo Yuanzhen returned to the image of a high monk. This White Horse Temple has a high status in the Buddhist community. At that time, Kashmoteng and Zhu Falan from India came here for thousands of mountains and rivers, and used white horses to carry Buddhist scriptures and statues. When he arrived in Luoyang, His Majesty the Emperor personally ordered the construction of the temple. In order to remember the merits of the White Horse Carrying Sutra, he named the temple "White Horse Temple".
It was not until White Horse Temple that monasteries began to be called temples, and White Horse Temple is therefore considered to be the birthplace of Buddhism in the country.
Nowadays, famous monks from these temples come here to read the scriptures and seek the Dharma, so White Horse Temple is also regarded as the "ancestral temple" and "Shiyuan" among Buddhism.
In such a Buddhist holy land, Huo Yuanzhen must certainly show the image of a high monk when he comes here, and he is not careless.
When the sun was about to come out, Huo Yuanzhen finally arrived in front of the gate of Baima Temple.
At the mountain gate, there is a stone statue of a white horse on both sides to commemorate the white horse carrying scriptures back then.
When Huo Yuanzhen got here, he got off the horse and the temple gate had not opened yet.
Huo Yuanzhen was not anxious and walked around outside the door. The ancient trees in the White Horse Temple were towering. In early winter, white mist was dotted on the branches and snowflakes were rustling, which gave a lot of scenery.
After walking for a while, the temple gate finally opened.
A little monk walked out of the temple with a broom, about to sweep the snow.
Huo Yuanzhen looked at the little monk. He looked at the martial arts, of course, he was incomparable to his Shaolin sweeping monk.
When the little monk saw Huo Yuanzhen standing at the door, he hurriedly bowed: "Amitabha, where does the master come from?"
Huo Yuanzhen returned the ceremony and said, "I am from Shaolin Temple in Songshan, and the abbot's right is it."
I heard that this monk who is about the same age as me is an abbot, and the young monk hurriedly bowed again: "Abbot of Yijie has failed to welcome you. Many masters have arrived. You can also quickly follow the monk into the temple."
Huo Yuanzhen nodded and agreed, following the little monk into the White Horse Temple.
When you enter the temple, you will suddenly see that there is an inscription engraved in the history of the White Horse Temple on the left. Walking forward, you will see the Heavenly King Hall.
As an abbot, many things must be done, especially when he comes to other people's places, he must be more cautious in his rules. Huo Yuanzhen first put on his cassock, then went to the Heavenly King Hall to worship Maitreya Buddha, and then followed the little monk to continue moving forward.
Behind the Heavenly King Hall is the Great Buddha Hall, which enshrines Sakyamuni Buddha, and Huo Yuanzhen continues to worship.
There is also a huge bronze bell in the Buddhist temple, which is not much worse than the bells in Shaolin Temple. It has a rust color on it, revealing a quaint atmosphere.
The bronze bell is engraved with the pattern of dragons, and the eight big words "Good weather and good weather, peace and prosperity in the country", and a poem is attached: "The bell sounds throughout the Brahma Palace, and the underworld is shook the underworld. I send the golden horse to the sky to rush to the east to the sky."
The rules here are that every morning, monks burn incense and chant scriptures, the bells of White Horse Temple ring, and the bells of Luoyang also ring. There has never been any deviation for many years. It is one of the eight scenic spots in Luoyang.
With the sound of bells that have not been changed for hundreds of years, White Horse Temple has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people in Buddhism.
After passing the Great Buddha Hall, there is also the Great Hall in front of it, which worships the Buddhas of the Posa World.
After passing hall after hall, Huo Yuanzhen showed a little impatient and did not do anything bad. The little monk next to him was envious. His state of mind and practice were beyond his reach. He was worthy of being an abbot at a young age.
But if he knew that when Huo Yuanzhen was the abbot, he would not have accepted the discipline and would not know what to think about.
After worshiping the Buddha, I saw a tall tower in the southeast from afar.
The height of this pagoda is not below the Shaolin Ten Thousand Buddha Pagoda. The tower is thirteen floors high, but the lifting of each floor is not as high as the Ten Thousand Buddha Pagoda.
Looking from afar, the top of the tower is filled with clouds, and it is worthy of the name of Qi Yun.
"This is the Qiyun Tower that the temple is about to be consecrated."
"Yes, Master, please come here first. Abbot Daoming of this temple has already known about your arrival and is waiting in the hall."
Huo Yuanzhen followed the little monk and walked towards the abbot's residence.
Along the way, many monks were surprised to see Huo Yuanzhen. You should know that ordinary monks cannot wear cassocks, and only the abbot or the eminent monk can wear cassocks. Why did this monk wear cassocks at a young age?
Moreover, this robe seems amazing. It shines brightly during the day, making people admire it.
Ignoring the various gazes of others. Huo Yuanzhen came all the way to the abbot's residence.
After the little monk went in to report, he invited Huo Yuanzhen to enter the room.
After entering the abbot's residence, an old monk was meditating on the bed. When he saw Huo Yuanzhen coming in, he stood up to greet him with a smile.
"Amitabha Buddha, I am a precept for Shaolin. I have met Master Daoming."
"Amitabha. Master Yijie is so polite. Please sit down, Mingyuan, and see the tea."
The little monk ran out to prepare tea little by little.
The two monks sat down, and soon Mingyuan took the tea in, put it on the table and stepped back.
"Thank you for your hard work from Master Yijie. It's great to walk on the road."
“Everything is OK.”
"It's so good. Now Zen Master Lizhi of Daxiangguo Temple, Master Pudu of Manshu Temple, Master Wumei of Lingyin Temple, Master Zhixian of Hanshan Temple, and many masters of temples have come to this temple and are resting in the meditation room, but Master Yijie is late."
"I came early, and it was so chaotic. Since the consecration had not yet begun, it would be not too late for me to come."
"Master Yijie is a good state. Since this is the case, I won't talk to you too much. So as not to add to the troubles of Master Yijie. Mingyuan. Go and take Master Yijie to the meditation room to rest, and wait until the ceremony begins to open the consecration ceremony."
Huo Yuanzhen saw the old monk's meaning and felt that he was young. Although he could not find out what he was wrong, he was unwilling to talk to him more.
Anyway, Huo Yuanzhen didn't want to talk to him too much, so he followed Mingyuan and left the abbot's Zen room.
When I arrived at the Zen Room where the guests were entertained by Baima Temple, I heard the sound of talking from afar.
There was a voice that Huo Yuanzhen still sounded familiar to him, so he asked Mingyuan to leave and walk inside alone.
When I arrived at the door of a room, there was a sound of talking inside.
"Only monks with extremely high cultivation levels are qualified to enter the Pure Land. It is ridiculous that those monks from small families dare to enter the Pure Land with a little cultivation level!"
Hearing this, Huo Yuanzhen frowned slightly. He was probably not a real monk who could speak like this.
At this time, the voice I heard just now said, "The corresponding to Pure Land is hell. I wonder if Master Mingxin reconciles this?"
The monk continued, "Hell is the residence of sinners. If we are monks, we do not kill, lie, eat meat, and proclaim lust, and do not have a fate with hell."
The familiar voice sighed slightly: "What Master Mingxin said is certainly reasonable, but his way of speaking is biased. Such a style does not match the identity of a monk."
Master Mingxin laughed: "Zen Master Lizhi is serious. I have always spoken like this. On the contrary, Zen Master Lizhi, you, after you went to Dengfeng, the people who came back have changed. The free and easy spirit of the past has disappeared. It has become too interesting. I heard that you were humiliated by a local monk. Is this true?"
Zen Master Li Zhi said: "Shame, ashamed, there is indeed this, but that is not a little monk, but Master Yijie, abbot of Shaolin Temple in Songshan. Although he is not old, he has a very high level of Buddhism and a very high state of mind. He seems to be free and unrestrained, but he has understood the philosophy of life. I am far inferior to him."
Huo Yuanzhen could hear clearly outside the door, but he didn't expect that Zen Master Lizhi was really a good monk and could have the courage to admit his shortcomings. This is better than himself.
But the Master Mingxin said, "Hmph, what abbot, I have heard from others. This abbot is about twenty years old and is rampant and reckless in doing things. He doesn't look like a monk. He doesn't even fight with others many times, but he also uses ways to make money. He really loses the face of a monk."
Zen Master Lizhi couldn't help but defend Huo Yuanzhen: "Even if you make money, as long as you can get it from the people and use it for the people, it will not be enough to fill your own pockets."
"Zen Master Lizhi, you don't have to defend him anymore. He has been humiliated and even spoke to others. I really don't know how you think about it. If that precept is here now, I will definitely scold him!"
