Chapter 397 Hejian (4)

At the end of December 1657, the scorching sun was in the sky.

Two ships belonging to the First Navy Fleet quietly drove to the river surface of the Yong'an section of the lower reaches of the Wujiang River. Due to the unfavorable wind direction, the two ships could only fall sails, start the steam power system to advance at low speed, and slowly lean towards a section of the deep water area on the west bank of the Wujiang River. Here is a simple dock established by the East Coast colonists.

Both ships are 11-ton class big guys, with a heavy draft of more than 3 meters, one of which is a troop transport ship, and the other is a water supply ship. The reason they drove here was to pick up more than 700 officers and soldiers of the Fourth Mixed Battalion of the Army who had been training in the Hejian area for months (400 recruits were added a few months ago), and of course, they also pulled away a batch of supply supplies from here.

The Fourth Battalion's training site was a vast area between Guazhou Township, two newly established settlements in the Hejian area (near Guareguaychu City) and Anding Township (near Concepcion on the Uruguay River). Through the war-based training, with the assistance of some Gao Qiao mercenaries, they used violent means to clean up many Crandy people in the area who were disobedient to discipline, so that the East Coast colonists who crossed the border and reclaimed the border had a safer living environment. After all, many of them crossed the border and entered the Hejian area under the instigation of the government.

In this area called the Parana River Delta by the Ministry of Agriculture of the East Coast (i.e. between the Parana River and the Uruguay River, and later the Entrerios Province of Argentina), more than a thousand East Coast people live now. They are basically second-generation citizens born after the founding of the country, generally relatively young, and full of beautiful vision for the future. In order to obtain a piece of land they own (the local commons did not allocate their second sons and daughters who had no inheritance rights), these people worked tirelessly across the vast Wujiang River and cultivated them openly under the supervision of the Spanish people.

Their feelings for this land are undoubtedly complex. On the one hand, the beautiful scenery here is intoxicating. A Greek writer who lives to the east coast praised this wonderful scenery and called it the "Tempe" of the New World (the Tesalia Valley in northern Greece, known for its beautiful scenery).

But beyond the beautiful scenery, these young passionate pioneers also hate the headache-inducing natural environment, because this place is simply a wild virgin land: lack of necessary flood control facilities, necessary transportation roads, and lack of markets that can provide consumer goods. Many people have worked hard to open up the land for a day. At night, they lie lonely in their shacks and cry secretly. Sometimes, an unexpected flood will mostly waste their previous efforts, which has hit many people's confidence. Fortunately, no one can't hold on so far (in fact, if you can't hold on, you have to hold on because they have nowhere to go). With the encouragement and funding of the East Coast colonial institutions, everyone slowly survived the initial difficult period, and then built dams on some higher terrain through their own hands, forming artificial mane terrain.

The Heavenly Lord is naturally kind and fair, and it will not allow hardworking and determined children to receive rewards. The fertile land and suitable climate here are enough to ensure that the rice fields opened by pioneers can be harvested. You should know that the Hejian area in later generations was one of the most important agricultural production areas in Argentina, providing about 6% of the country's rice, most of the country's soybeans (before Pampas was developed to grow soybeans), most of the linen (and flaxseed oil), 15% of wheat and almost all of the tung oil tea tobacco sugarcane coffee and tropical fruits. Of course, we must not forget that this is another important forest production area besides the Andes. It can be said to be one of the most important agricultural areas in Argentina. In a sense, if it were not for the development here too late (the second half of the 19th century), the development situation here would definitely be far more than the level of later generations.

At this time, on the banks of the Xiaogua River (i.e. Gualeguaichu River), a tributary of the Wujiang River, Major Anda Fifteen, the deputy battalion commander of the Fourth Mixed Battalion of the Army, was finishing the last training session with the soldiers. The content of the training session was simple and monotonous, just like the tactics of the East Coast Army over the years. The rhythm of cannon bombing, cavalry chopping, and infantry crushing was very old-fashioned, but it worked. Especially when dealing with Spanish colonial corps or pirates with weak firepower. This level of firepower projection density is far from what they can withstand, and they can basically win in one battle. Of course, when facing Indians with weak firepower, they can even save the cannon bombing. As long as they are not touched or raided in the march or camp, they are basically crushed at will.

The training ground is located outside an abandoned logging field on the southern edge of Montel Forest. Not far away, various beasts and birds and insects were flying in the dense forest. The rumbling sound of gunfires were ripe fruits that grew in the wild all year round to provide rich food for long-tailed monkeys and night monkeys, but now these guys have shrunk to the depths of the dark forest. Even in the face of Asala's vampire bats, they will never show up. Some other animals, from jaguars, leopards, lynx, and small squirrels, and large ferrets, have disappeared, allowing the group of humanoid creatures to rage around the forest.

"Even a bird can't be seen! We have been training and clearing here for so long, and the nearby hostile Crandy tribe killed one or two thousand people. It shouldn't be that the natives who never looked at each other again came to harass them, right?" Anda Fifteen looked at the officers and soldiers who were slowly gathering under the command of the training staff and said softly.

This logging farm is close to the edge of the forest, and there are a large number of high-quality timber resources that are not available in the East Coast, such as Gaffen Acacia, Tibwa Elephant Beans, Prassia, Palm Tree, Palm Tree, Palm Tree, White Axe Tree, Sea Red Beans, etc. It is logical that they will be robbed of the head and will never be abandoned. However, late one night before, an East Coast businessman who was carrying out logging operations here and dozens of Italian labor workers who angered the Crandy people for some reason, and was then raided. He suffered heavy casualties, so he was abandoned.

After hearing the news on the 15th, Anda immediately left the team and went to the capital Joint Staff Headquarters to listen to Chief of Staff Mo's confidential instructions. He commanded more than 700 people in the battalion to set up the battalion overnight and arrived here. Then he launched a bloody suppression of the Crandy tribe, killing hundreds of people in front and behind, and slaughtering the other two tribes that had a marriage relationship with them, and then he barely stopped.

Deputy Battalion Commander Anda made such thunderous tricks, and the nearby Crandy barbarians were suddenly silent and did not dare to have any other ideas. After doing this, Anda Fifteen simply set up the temporary camp of the troops in this abandoned logging yard, and then used this as a base to continuously move forward, intentionally or unintentionally expelled a large number of Crandy tribes. While providing a large amount of labor for the local mines, they also prepared generous gifts for the local immigrants, and a "clean" land.

Faced with such arrogant actions by the people of the East Coast, the Spanish garrison in the Hejian area (half of the "gentlemen's orders", i.e., the white group) simply turned a deaf ear to this, pretending to be invisible, and honestly acted as a turtle. Even if the naturalized Crandy tribe heads came to ask them to send troops, they were rejected. Now, neither the international nor the domestic situation allowed them to act rashly, let alone they themselves were not sure to defeat the people of the East Coast, so they simply turned a blind eye and bombed all the Crandy people (and some Jesuit priests) who came to plead, so they would not fall into a passive position.

The officers and soldiers of the Fourth Battalion, who had finished training, quickly assembled. After the training staff report, the marching staff stepped forward to submit the marching route, the intelligence staff stepped forward to describe the collected information, and the logistics staff submitted a list of materials procurement. After hearing all this, Anda Fifteen waved his hand and ordered to set off. So more than 700 people in the battalion moved eastward as the crowd shouted and neighed.

Before the large army was dispatched, a contact staff officer of the battalion had already taken two people on a fast horse to the riverside dock more than ten kilometers away, intending to make a good border with the coming navy to get the troops and supplies of the Fourth Battalion on board as soon as possible. Their destination for this trip was Luoqi Port (a recruitment site for the Fourth Mixed Battalion of the Army), where the Fourth Battalion would supplement another 300 new recruits, and then, led by the battalion commander Major Long Xu, join the battle sequence of the Navy's temporary task force, accompanying the Caribbean shipping company's several

The ship went to the Port of San Juan on Puerto Rico. Although Spain's King Philip had not officially approved some of the requirements of the East Coast people, due to the urgent urging of the country's special envoy Baron Bravo and also taking into account the economic interests of the East Coast Republic itself, the Executive Committee officially approved the establishment of the Caribbean temporary task force, carried some army to the Port of San Juan, and then used this as a base to carry out military operations that "conform to the interests of the East Coast Republic of China", such as clearing out pirates, cracking down on smuggling, etc.

The route of the Caribbean Task Force is San Juan, Recife, and on the way, there will be more than a thousand Black Eight Banners officers and soldiers with rich combat experience on board the ship at the port of River in South Africa. Their final destination is a place suitable for agricultural production at the mouth of the Mississippi River. The East Coast people have previously conveyed messages through Indians studying abroad and bought a vast piece of land from the local tribes. Of course, the price is quite low.
