30. The witch trials

"boom"

The scorching shells flew out of the thick and short mortar mouth, and in the skillful positioning of the dwarf gunners, they passed a nearly perfect shining track in the air, and finally hit the group of stone palate monsters charging towards the steam elevator.

The moment the shell landed, the splashing flames and fragments fired around it to pieces the ugly and bizarre guys around it, and the heavy steam tanks sent to the city on both ends blocked the road for the dwarfs to escape with the whimpering sound. The dwarves climbed onto the tanks, manipulated the terrible fire guns, and tilted the bullet storm on the battlefield in front of them like a tide.

Although the dwarves came to support a little later, they were definitely what dwarves needed the most. At the front of the steam hall, Lord Kurtaz led the dwarves and paladins to form the strongest line of defense, almost facing the seemingly endless stone palate monsters to win the escape time for the remaining dwarves.

And above the underground city, surrounded by the snow-capped mountains of Kazmodan, the dwarfs who escaped from the dungeon were curled up in the snow-collar town, crying silently. Today, they lost everything.

Brian Bronzebeard took the dwarf priests to rescue the poor people who were exhausted and seriously injured. Looking at the miserable situation of the craftsmen, the old Bronzebeard felt guilty in his heart.

If he hadn't insisted on going to Odamanli to find some hellish ruins, the sealed stone palate monsters would not have broken through the cage, and the dwarves and dwarves would not have to endure such terrible torture.

But now that things have come to this point, the old dwarf can only force himself to help these allies in urgent need of help.

"Send the seriously injured person to Iron Fort first, and where is the great craftsman Mekatok?"

Brian shouted, "We need him to come out and support the situation!"

"The great craftsman is trapped in the city, he has no idea of his life or death, and there is almost the entire council of dwarf craftsmen."

The remaining dwarf MP happened to be carried aside by the priests on a stretcher. In order to protect a child, he was smashed by the stone palate monster on his legs. He grabbed Brian's hand pale face and begged in a deep voice:

"Please, Bronzebeard, my friend, help us, rescue the great artisan and Major Ella, please."

"Aira?"

Brian asked in confusion: "Who is that?"

"It's a hero!"

The dwarf MP said with difficulty: "It was she who saved tens of thousands of people in the steam hall. Without her command, we would not be able to support you. When the defense line was broken, she asked us to blow up the passage in the hall, but she herself led the monsters away with the corpses."

"Yeah, it sounds like a real hero."

Brian nodded, but soon he grabbed his hair and asked:

"Wait, the corpse? Do you think she commands the corpse? She is a death knight?"

"No! No, Ella is a dwarf, the kind that lives."

The dwarf MP gestured to explain, but he was too seriously injured, perhaps pulling the wound, and after a scream, his mind tilted and fainted, while the old bronze beard grabbed his hair, he felt something was in trouble.

"Oh no! Kurtaz..."

From the gratitude tone of this dwarf MP, he could feel that the mysterious Ella had a high reputation in the rescued dwarf's mind, but the Lord Kurtaz who he asked for help was another sincere and fanatical Paladin... Thinking of the grudge between the Paladin and the Necromancers, Brian suddenly felt a little numb.

He hurriedly rushed towards the steam elevator of Nomoregan with his short legs.

"Kurtaz, don't do stupid things!"

——————————————————

On the other side, Lord Kurtaz shone with the light of holy light in his hand. He half-kneeled on the dim ground, helping an injured dwarf stabilize his injuries, and then watched the last group of escaped dwarfs leave the city amid the other party's gratitude.

The Dwarf Lord has experienced the Second Orc War in full. He has also participated in the last battle of Burning the Plains. He has also seen the battlefield where orcs have raged with his own eyes.

Although those battlefields were filled with iron and fire, killing and madness, they were dangers that could be seen by the naked eye. In front of them, the city that had completely died, dark green radiant dust rose from time to time in the dim tunnel, shining with the strange aura of extinction of all things, like a monster with its mouth opened in the abyss, ruthlessly devouring any life that was trapped in it.

This sneaky and the unknown emitted from the city made the old dwarf who had been through many battles shook his head.

"Even if I go to fight to the death with those damn necromancers, I don't want to enter this damn hell... Alas, the poor dwarfs are in trouble, and they may never be able to take it back."

"Let's go, let's get the team!"

The Paladin waved his hand, and the two steam tanks slowly started, escorting the tired Paladins back towards the steam elevator. Just as they were about to step onto the elevator, a roar from far to near came out of the dark tunnel ahead.

"Someone!"

Kurtaz shouted, grabbed his warhammer, and gestured to the two tanks: "Beware!"

"Swish"

The heavy steam-firing rifle suddenly shifted its direction and aimed at the dark tunnel behind. The next moment, a ray of light exploded in front of everyone's eyes, approaching a loud thunderous sound, mixed with the screams of the stone palate monster, as if something exploded among those monsters.

"Bangbangbangbangbang"

The mechanical bird's metal claws hit the tunnel and made a crisp sound. Kurtaz narrowed his eyes and saw two gnomes sitting behind a strange white and red painted giant mechanical bird, followed by more than a dozen escapees, running wildly towards the direction of the defense line.

"It's Mekatok!"

The steam tank driver put down his telescope and shouted, "I recognize him as a gnome craftsman, he escaped! He also brought a gnome girl."

"Why are you still standing there?"

The Paladin Lord stepped forward quickly, jumped onto the steam tank in two steps, shouting: "Support them and drive back the monsters that are chasing!"

"Bang, bang"

Two mortar shells soon landed behind the desperate craftsmen. The explosion of air waves drove away the stone palate monsters chasing, but also rushed forward by the overwhelmed mechanical bird.

Mekatok was thrown on the ground, and escaping from the central control room had exhausted the craftsman. After the robot he had operated had self-destructed, the craftsman was injured. He looked up in dizzyness and saw those stone palate monsters pounced fiercely on the dwarfs in front of him.

"No!"

The great craftsman grabbed the wrench beside him and smashed it at the stone palate monster. Ella, who was also exhausted, gritted her teeth and used her last magic to awaken the surrounding corpses, driving them to block the stone palate monsters rudely, winning the last time for these escaped dwarfs.

"Bang bang bang"

The irritating gunshots of the steam-firing rifle sounded in the dark, and finally repelled the counterattacked radiant stone palate monsters. After the great craftsman escaped from hell, more than a dozen dwarf survivors who escaped from hell were limp on the ground, while Ella supported the great craftsman and walked behind the steam tank's defense line.

"Thank you for your help."

Mekatok expressed his gratitude to Lord Kurtaz. The dwarf smiled and took the great craftsman from Ella. The next moment, the cold warhammer hit Ella's eyes.

"Witch! What's your relationship with those undead?"

Lord Kurtaz was waiting for the female dwarf in front of him coldly. He felt a little familiarity from Ella's method of manipulating the corpse, very much like the death knights who emerged in the late war.

Normally, it is impossible for a dwarf warlock to exist in Kazmodan, far away from the curse. Warlock magic is regarded as a taboo in the entire alliance except Dalaran.

In the Orc War, many of the brothers of Lord Kurtaz died under the magic of Orc Warlock, and the Paladins suffered heavy casualties due to the appearance of the undead. Whether public or private, he had enough reason to doubt and be hostile to Ella.

"Kurtaz, Ella is not a bad guy!"

The weak Mekatok reached out and held Lord Kurtaz's arm, and he whispered:

"You saw it with your own eyes that she was protecting her compatriots in her own way... She is not a bad person!"

"Mr. Mekatok, you're very tired, go and have a rest."

The stubborn dwarf paladin winked at the dwarf soldiers around him. The two soldiers walked forward and helped Mekatok to the elevator. Behind the nervous craftsman, Lord Kurtaz whispered:

"I'll handle it all."

"Then what are you going to deal with me?"

Ella was not afraid of the Paladin in front of her, a contemptuous smile flashed across her pale face:

"Call the forces that disagree with your faith are heresy? Furiously burn all spellcasters who use dark powers? I know what you did, the Paladins are all brainless idiots! Has your Holy Light told you that the evil is not the power, but the user of the power? Or is it just that you don't want to believe this?"

"Shut up! Witch!"

The dwarf said coldly: "I saw you blasphemy with your own eyes!"

"I'm doing it for help!"

Ella became excited:

"Did you let me watch those dwarfs die in the hands of the stone palate monster? Have you been burned by your faith?"

"quibble!"

Kurtaz lost his patience. He held his weapon and stepped forward. The paladins around him also surrounded him with fierce eyes. Ella gritted her teeth, and two balls of dark energy gathered in her palms. At this moment, Brian, who was rushing to see this scene, shouted loudly:

"Kurtaz! Stop! Don't be impulsive!"

"Um?"

The Dwarf Paladin turned around and saw Brian running quickly, grabbing his wrist and saying in his ear:

"This dwarf saved tens of thousands of people... You can't kill her or hurt her, otherwise the dwarfs will riot. We are here to help them, don't let good things turn bad things! If this makes you feel better, she is still the former league major who fought orcs with you in the Burning Plains. She is a hero! Just like you."

"Um?"

Lord Kurtaz's expression became subtle, and he turned back and looked at Ella with a scrutiny look. After a moment, he waved his hand, and the dwarf paladins retreated aside. He looked at Ella and asked in a low voice:

"You've participated in the Battle of Burning Plains? Where did you learn warlock magic from?"

“Nothing to be told.”

Ella whispered:

"Either kill me or let me go!"

This hard-working attitude made Kurtaz unable to help but grit his teeth, but in the end, the dwarf paladin put down the weapon in his hand. He looked at the dwarf with a blank expression and said in a deep voice:

"I hate all existences related to the necromancer. Logically, I should purify you... But you have contributed to the alliance and saved people in this disaster. My merits and demerits are worthy of them!"

"My demerits are offset?"

Ella smiled mockingly, reached out and pushed away the Paladin, and strode towards the steam elevator behind her:

"Who are you? You are not qualified to judge me! Paladin, your holy light is not the truth of everything, and I, I have seen a more terrifying force... You can't scare me, just like that, goodbye, elm heads."

Lord Kurtaz looked at Ella's back and shouted loudly:

"The fire of the Holy Light has been ignited in Danmoro. Kazmodan does not allow any dark power to exist. Leave here! Warlock, you are expelled! The next time I see you again, we will not be so peaceful! And once your tribesmen come back from panic, manipulating the corpse will be considered a sin. Ella, leave here, it is good for themselves!"

"To be honest, it doesn't matter at all!"

"There is someone I respect very much that once told me that after the change, everything familiar will no longer accept you. They will be afraid of you and reject you. This is normal, because change...change itself is terrible. I have made a decision and I will bear the price."

The steam elevator slowly moved up, and Ella stretched out her hand and pulled her broken hood down. She couldn't see her eyes from the direction of Kurtaz, but could only see the sneer on the corner of her mouth.
