Chapter 1 Penetration (Part 2)

The siege of Yazda was lasting and miserable.

This mountain fortress has three floors, along the river bank, an exterior wall, with well-equipped garrisons, and missile projectors with the same power as the Romans. On the mountainside is the second floor, with only two entrances, the front north gate and the side east gate. This fortress controls the most precious water source, a reservoir excavated on a natural giant rock. The uppermost layer is a small and sturdy Acropolis fortress, located on the top of a thousand Roman rulers. The bows and arrows and throws shot from it can kill dozens of Stadia.

Moreover, David Angit made a move first. When he raided Li Bida at the north gate, he suddenly allowed a soldier to occupy a certain high ground in the south and extended the city wall to build a city wall, which was linked to the third floor of the exterior wall, posing a serious threat to the 13th legion camped under the high ground. The Romans originally surrounded the exterior wall, but in turn they were besieged by the city, and the trouble was very embarrassing.

Petternius, who guarded the fortress of the Xishan Fleet, decisively sent a large ship to transport a considerable amount of siege equipment to the Thirteenth Legion. Hebrida arranged the entire legion into five camps, connected by wooden fences in the middle, and used crossbows, cavalry cannons and wild donkeys to slam the Hashidi walls on the high ground day and night, and finally opened the gap three days later. Later, Hebrida escorted more than a thousand Essians and built soil to form a gentle slope. Then four hundred teams of people rushed up side by side, and then captured the high ground on the flank. Only two of the four hundred Hashidi believers garrisoned on the top were captured, and the rest were all killed in battle.

At the same time, at the north gate, Li Bida's troops also built four connected camps along the Yazda's walls, aiming the stone thrower at the walls and smashing them constantly.

As time went on, food supply in the Yazda Fortress had a difficulty. David Angit decided to shrink his troops to the second city wall. At the same time, Libida sent a command to circle Yazda in a large ship. It was difficult to inform all the leaders of the camp to go to the Fleet Fortress to concentrate and hold a joint meeting. Before leaving, Libida handed over the camp defense to Faubinas, and then in the house of the Fleet Fortress. He made new personnel arrangements: the Fleet Fortress Liu Gebo and other small infantrymen took a few ships to defend. Half of the Serapis Legion went to strengthen the Thirteenth Army, and half took a large ship to raid the two islands with small fortresses on the outer wall of Yazda, and then attacked the Water Gate from there. At the same time, the Thirteenth Army attacked the southern exterior wall, strive for the coordination of various units to seize the third exterior wall, and approached the core castle.

On March 2018, the Serapis Legion on the ship launched a fierce attack on two confrontational islands. The deck of the ship was towering higher than the towers on the island. In front of the city gate that was shaking, countless frantically Hashidi believers rushed out. Swimming at the large ship floating on the water, Seerha ordered all the soldiers to hang torches on the deck, and almost shot them all with bows and arrows. The bodies and blood filled the entire bay. Then the bow of the ship sprayed out high-temperature flames, burning the water gate fence on the exterior wall. After one night, the Serapis Legion took the lead in breaking through the exterior wall, but found that it was not counterattacked by the defenders in the city. About the early morning, the Thirteenth Legion also formed a siege slope along the carefully built siege, and they all over the exterior wall with armed forces and entered the confluence with the Serapis Legion.

When General Petternius saw the empty scenes inside the two walls, he said to Hebrida and Seerha: "The real siege battle has just begun. He ordered the army slaves and the Esios to transport all the stone throwing machines, crossbows, sheep's head hammers, wood and iron nails outside the city!"

At this moment, Li Bida's northern detachment had been in a peaceful state. However, after learning that the Thirteenth Legion and the Serapis Legion captured the exterior wall, they moved the camp forward, demolished all the bricks and stones of the walls, and formed a new siege camp. Only then did Li Bida realize that one of the sections was faked by adobe bricks, and he couldn't help but feel surprised and regretful.

When the Commander-in-Chief and Anthony and Petneus observed the second wall of Yazda, they felt that suffering was coming. This section of the mountain was made up of sharp white or black rocks exposed on the surface. There was no tall trees and no place to cover them. "Dig the rocks, then build a wooden frame to form a siege platform." Li Bida gritted his teeth. He knew the arduousness and cruelty of this project, but since Yazda refused to surrender, he had to do so.

The infantry team guarded the crossbows and catapults, and kept firing at the defenders on the second city wall. All the remaining personnel, whether soldiers or officers, began to turn into coolies, staring at the flying stone bullets. On the west side of the second wall, with one thousand two hundred Roman feet as the reference length, first built a staircase-shaped wooden frame against the city wall. In order to prevent the Hashidi arson system, dense iron nails and piles were nailed on the frame and covered the iron sheet. Then the soldiers began to fill the wood frame with gravel, mixed with a lot of volcanic ash to solidify, first building a layer, followed by another layer...

Almost every day, small and fierce battles occurred around protecting and destroying the siege towers, and blood soaked the rocks everywhere. However, the Hashidi people were cut off from the inside and outside of the logistics, while the Roman army could be transported from the Kingdom of Galamantes through the Tostone River. Therefore, the hope of the Hashidi people to hold on to the second wall was becoming increasingly slim.

Finally, at the end of June, the Romans' siege platform was completed, with a length of 1,200 Roman feet and a height of 400 Roman feet! The above were full of crossbows and scorpion crossbows, and there was a gap on the foundation of the platform. A huge sheep-headed hammer was specially placed, with wheels and simple wooden rails underneath. The project lasted for three months, but the day of the siege was only less than two days. The battlements were soon broken by the concentrated launch of stone bullets. The infantry climbed up along the pedals on the siege platform and the temporary earthen embankment, and captured the city walls and towers. The city gate was also destroyed by the sheep-headed hammer and then set fire to the fire.

But David Angit, who was unyielding, quickly built a wall along the narrow passage of the Acropolis gate, and continued to stubbornly resist the impact of the Romans.

The heavy rain came, and a dim storm between the sky and the earth was coming. Both sides were still in the watery clouds and rains running like wild horses on Mount Yazda. Almost all the newly built siege towers and harp cars by Li Bida's forward were blown down. The rain surged heavily. The soldiers were curled up under their cloaks and stood in a slightly higher area to hide from the rain. Angit's temporary walls also collapsed after soaking in water.
