Chapter 25 The Clouds of Rome (Part 2)

The villa of Luculas is located under a hill in the Bay of Naples. This is the place that wealthy people in all Rome yearn for the most. Every rich man who builds a house here is deliberately competing for luxury and flaunting his power. When a group of new villas are erected, a group of old owners of villas will leave sadly because of the defeats in politics or shopping malls. But Luculas has always been as safe as a rock. Even though he is frustrated now, he is still the richest person in all Rome. This can be seen from his gorgeous villas that stand proudly:

The villa was not elsewhere, but was built directly on the breakwater of Naples. From a distance, Karabis could see its golden flat roof, shining in the shade. When Lukulas's sedan chair entered the huge side door, some slaves were carefully carrying a cherry tree transported from Bendu to the garden of the villa. "Kelly, be aware, it is the biggest gain of my war in many years." Lukulas, who had gotten off the sedan chair, made a self-deprecating self-deprecating, and then asked Karabis to follow him, cross the garden of the fountain, and entered the front hall of the villa.

There, two distinguished guests in casual robes were enjoying various luxurious paintings and decorations in the hall. When they saw Lukulas, who was enthusiastic with his hands, they kissed and hugged him.

"Lucius (Luculas name), you are too luxurious, really. This will not set a good example for the citizens of Rome." A person in his thirties, thin but bright eyes said with a strong force.

"Luxury alone should not be enough to face the accusations of the Citizens' Congress, dear Gatu Usensis." Lukulas sighed slightly, lying half on the bed. Another distinguished guest sat where Lukulas rested his feet. This man was about fifty years old, with gray hair mixed with gray eyes and nose, and his head looked extremely round because of his short hair. There were deep wrinkles between his facial features, making him look deep and desireless. "Tuna, can you talk about your war with the King of Bendu and the King of Armenia in Xiaoya? How, if you have five legions, can you defeat these two great countries?"

Karabis, standing on the porch of the front hall, thought to himself that when Lukulas handed over military power, the warning left to Pompey was right: now the powerful politicians in Rome are crazy about conquering the cause of alien races, and everyone is eager to control the army and gain the power of life and death, and to gain greater benefits and honors for themselves on the edge of the known world, in order to win the initiative in the competition for power in the city of Rome.

Lukulas looked at the big round head and smiled, saying, "My dear Crassus, I will write a memoir of the war in Xiaoya, which will take me about ten years. If you can live to be sixty-five, you can take ten legions to subdue the farther Parthia according to the characteristics of the enemy and me described in my book."

Crassu laughed in a sharp voice, saying on the one hand that he liked Lukulas's jokes, and on the other hand that he was covering up his true thoughts, "Really, Tuna, you wrote a good book, as good as your military skills. That book "Masi War History" is still on my desk."

On the one hand, Xiao Katu, who supported the pillar with his hands, nodded to express his approval of Crassus's evaluation. "History of the Marsian War" is a work by Lukulas more than ten years ago (remembers of the Alliance War more than twenty years ago). Once it was released, it was regarded as a classic of war history books. Then, Xiao Katu cleared his throat, "About the accusation issues of the Citizens' Congress..." Crassus immediately seized the opportunity to hold Lukulas's hand, "Don't worry, I also hate Pompei's hypocritical nouveau riche..."

At this time, Lukulas made a gesture of silence. He thought there were too many people in the front hall and it was too complicated. Demethrius's lesson was still in front of him, so he called Kelly in, leaned against the ear of the closest Shield-holding slave, gave a few instructions, and then slapped his palm twice, indicating that only two distinguished guests, Xiao Katu and Crassus, were left to discuss the matter, and the rest of them all went out first.

On the boulevard of the manor villa, Kelly grabbed his slightly bald hair and said to Carabis who was following him: "Listen, take your nanny and the baby immediately, follow me to Rome City and do some chores. When you arrive in Rome City, rent an apartment near the Temple of the Goddess of War (Belona). I will contact you at any time. Remember, don't forget to bring a broad sword."

"Is this a Roman city?" One day later, when they entered Capua connected by the Apiñen Avenue, Parumma, led by Calabis and Porti, asked in surprise - Capua is a city left by Greek colonists. The city is neat, the streets are neat, and the blocks are like square grids. The citizens' residences are all small brick buildings of two-story heights and sizes, and temples of different levels and colors. The markets and green belts are in harmony. About 40,000 people live here, and they are full of geometric and artificial visual enjoyment.

Walking in front and driving a mule cart, Kelly laughed and said, "Capua is a paradise created by stones. Compared with it, Rome is a big pigpen!" This puzzled Calabis. He took the opportunity to ask Kelly, "I have read some works of Roman poets, all of which describe the city of Rome located on seven hills, with gurgling springs in the valley and the fragrance of flowers brought by the breeze. It is the most beautiful city in the center of the world."

"The poet also said that they were willing to farm and cultivate the land. Then ask the guys who received the sponsorship if they were willing to go to the farm in Sicily for a few days." Kelly disagreed.

With this doubt, Calabis and his party slowly approached the city of Rome further north. Finally, when they arrived at the intersection of the walls of the Apiñen Avenue and the southeast of the city of Rome, Calabis had a glimpse of the living "capital of the world" for the first time.

The Roman city walls were extremely curved and irregular, and at the intersection, they took a concave shape. The sides of the avenue were densely packed with buildings with no rules. The eaves of this house often blocked the balcony of the house. Various signs were swaying on the walls and tree trunks, including taverns, brothels, hostels, apartments, livestock circles, and casinos. They were often decorated with colorful chalk mud graffiti, with campaign slogans, works of erotic poets, and obscene

The erotic paintings contain the love declaration of young men. There is a section of the avenue composed of tilted mass graves. The hillside is full of tombs and tombstones, and it is also poisoned by graffiti. The Karabis family also saw a big pit in it. Several people covered with faces pulled a cart, and lying on it was full of hungry corpses. Then, a burst of whirlpools all rolled into the pit, accompanying the smelly water and rotten bones in the pit until they turned into one, and the breeze came, bringing waves of foul-brained stench.
