【1063 Minister of Foreign Affairs Li Hongzhang】
Coastal defense is a big problem for China. China's industry cannot be used for a long time. The cute president has been worried about whether to build warships himself or ask the great powers about buying warships.
Taking China's current international relations as for example, buying warships is not as easy as the Qing court in its original history.
Because the 6th Army of China is now too strong and its fame has been brought to life, anyone who sells weapons to China will arouse the dissatisfaction of the great powers.
"There is no foreign minister in China yet, and Zeng Jize is the deputy minister, but he needs a more experienced person to be in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs." Princess Katrina Kaif said to the cute CEO.
The cute CEO just paid condolences to Cixi and was still calming down. After thinking for a while, he smiled and said, "I have a good candidate, just Li Hongzhang."
Princess Katrina Kaifu's eyes lit up, "Yes, Li Hongzhang is a very good candidate. On the one hand, none of the officials from the Qing court had real shortcomings. Letting Li Hongzhang serve, it can also dispel a lot of gossip, saying that our country of China has destroyed bridges and deceived Qing officials to surrender, and tried every means to make things difficult for them. It was an assessment and training, but it was not arranged real problems. Not only was the original Qing court officials, but it also dispelled the enthusiasm of many feudal landlord intellectuals. In addition, with Li Hongzhang as a foreign minister, the president's prospective father-in-law would not feel uncomfortable."
The cute CEO chuckled, "You are thinking carefully, I didn't think so much about who has the ability. Zeng Jize has not been appointed as the Foreign Minister. I think his ability is not enough to be competent. Although Li Hongzhang's talent is very strong, he still needs to observe for a while. Please help me find Li Hongzhang and I will talk to him personally."
Princess Katrina Kaif nodded and said, "Okay."
The cute CEO came over with a smile and hugged Princess Katrina Kaif.
Princess Katrina Kaif was about to leave, and smiled shyly, "President, what are you going to do?"
"Squat down? What are you asking?" The cute CEO pouted.
Princess Katrina Kaifu squatted down with a smile. The cute CEO hugged Princess Katrina Kaifu's neck and kissed the beauty's pink lips, "Haha, okay."
Princess Katrina Kaif was both funny and angry, "It was said to be polite. The president kissed too long, it was said to be intimate. The president kissed too short, which made people feel overwhelmed. How did they do things?"
The cute CEO laughed, "Give some interest first and sleep with my Princess Katrina Kaif tonight."
Princess Katrina Kaif blushed and kissed the cute CEO's face and went out.
After the honeymoon period of Princess Jie, the cute president was in a good mood. Although the international situation around China is still confusing, it is still much better than the period when the Qing court ruled!
Li Hongzhang came over quickly, "President."
The cute president smiled and said, "Mr., please sit down! I'm here to ask you to be the Foreign Minister of China. However, I can't be upheld for the time being. I have to wait for my mentor to be a year or two, and I have achieved success and convinced everyone. What do you think?"
Li Hongzhang said in surprise: "Thank you for your appreciation, Li Hongzhang is willing to serve the emperor!"
The cute CEO chuckled. Li Hongzhang was an official fan. He knew best, "How can you not be happy after getting the only real shortcomings of the former Qing court officials in China?"
Li Hongzhang's old face turned red. He didn't expect that the cute CEO would say so directly, but just smiled.
"However, I have a tricky thing to hand over to the teacher now." President Meng said, receiving a telegram from the Bureau of Statistics in the Americas office.
Li Hongzhang read the telegram and frowned, "President, buying Chinese workers in South America is an old problem. I want to recommend someone, don't you know?"
The cute CEO nodded and said, "Okay, my mentor, please tell me."
"Yong Wing, Yung Wing was one of the few Westernization talents among the Qing court officials." Li Hongzhang suggested to President Meng.
The cute CEO nodded, Yung Wing knew about this person.
Yung Wing's original name was Guangzhao, and his clan name was Da Meng, and his nickname was Chunfu. He was from Nanping Village, Xiangshan County, Guangdong Province (now Nanping Town, Zhuhai City). He was a famous modern Chinese educator, diplomat and social activist.
Yung Wing is the first Chinese student to graduate from Yale University in the United States. He is a pioneer in the Chinese student career and is known as the "father of Chinese students."
During the Westernization Movement in the late Qing Dynasty, he made history because he promoted and managed two major events: he built the first complete machine factory in modern China - the Shanghai Jiangnan Machinery Manufacturing Bureau; and organized the first batch of young children studying in the United States for official fees.
In the original history, Yung Wing made indelible contributions to the modern Western learning in China, the reform of 1998 and the Revolution of 1911.
On September 2, 1865, Li Hongzhang established the Jiangnan Machinery Manufacturing Bureau (also known as the Jiangnan Manufacturing Bureau, Jiangnan Manufacturing Bureau, Shanghai Machinery Bureau, and Shanghai Manufacturing Bureau). This was the largest modern military enterprise established by the Westernization faction of the Qing government. Li Hongzhang bought the American merchant's Flag Mark Iron Factory in Hongkou for 40,000 taels of silver, and merged some of the machines of the Suzhou Foreign Artillery Bureau and the machines bought back by Zeng Guofan from the United States into the iron factory with the Shanghai Marine Artillery Bureau to establish the Jiangnan Manufacturing Bureau. The Shanghai Marine Manufacturing Bureau was the first complete machine factory in modern China.
In the seventh year of Tongzhi (1868), four articles were proposed to the Qing government with the focus on selecting young children to study abroad.
In the ninth year of Tongzhi (187o), under Yung Wing's repeated persuasion, Zeng Guofan finally expressed his willingness to submit an international student to the court.
After approval from the court, the "Children's Studying Bureau" was established in the tenth year of Tongzhi (August 1871), with Chen Lanbin as a member of the Foreign Affairs Bureau and Yung Wing as a vice member. Chen Lanbin was responsible for Chinese studies for students studying abroad during the United States, while Yung Wing was responsible for the education of children in the United States until the Qing government withdrew from international students in the 20th year of Tongzhi (1881).
Among these students studying in the United States, 30 people engaged in industry, mining, railway and telegraph, including 9 industrial and mining leaders, 6 engineers, and 3 railway directors; 5 people engaged in education, including 1 president of Tsinghua University and 1 president of Beiyang University; 24 people engaged in diplomatic administration, including 12 consuls and agents, 1 vice minister, 1 ambassador to foreign countries, and 1 Premier of the State Council; 7 people engaged in business; 20 people entered the navy, of which 14 were naval generals.
In short, in addition to those who died early, stayed in the United States without returning home, and buried their hometown, most of them have made due contributions to China's modernization in different positions.
Yung Wing was an outstanding pioneer in China's modernization and a great patriot.
He received systematic Western education from childhood to teenage years, and later studied at Yale University, a famous American institution.
In order to "inculate Western academics into China and make China increasingly civilized and prosperous", he resolutely returned to his motherland after graduating from university.
He advocated, planned, promoted and led the dispatch of the first generation of Chinese officials and students studying in the United States in modern China, actively engaged in social reform activities, and repeatedly advised the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and the Qing government to establish and develop a series of modern military, politics and culture in China. He tried his best to advocate the development of national economy, education and industry, and proposed a beautiful blueprint for the development of modern railways, water transportation, mining, commerce, and the establishment of a national bank in modern times. Later, he devoted himself to the Westernization Movement and the Reform Movement, and in his later years supported and participated in the revolutionary struggle led by Sun Yat-sen. His life followed the historical trend, kept pace with the times, worked tirelessly to learn from the West and expand the East, and made great contributions to China's modernization.
"Yes, Yung Wing is your deputy and enjoy the treatment of a deputy minister of diplomacy." The cute president said.
Li Hongzhang was overjoyed. This made Li Hongzhang more confident in his diplomatic work.
In the foreign negotiations in the Qing Dynasty, Peru was the first country in Latin America to establish diplomatic relations with the Qing government. The establishment of Sino-Peru diplomatic relations was directly related to the negotiations on the issue of Chinese workers in Peru in the late Qing Dynasty.
After the mid-19th century, due to the need for Europe, the United States and other countries to open Latin America and the abolition of the black slavery system, Chinese workers were imported into Latin America through Macau.
From 1849 to 1874, "humble Chinese workers with a population of between 80,000 and 100,000 set foot on the coast of Pizarro's territory."
These Chinese workers who have been lucky enough to pass the "floating hell on the sea" have made important contributions to the economic development of Peru, but have suffered the most inhuman treatment.
Except for a few of them who work in coastal sugarcane and cotton plantations, most of them are sent to coastal islands to do the most harmful work - digging bird droppings.
At that time, Peru's idea of "the overwhelming middle of the lower classes in cities was that the Chinese were created only for the special interests of Peruvians, and were much lower than them on the social ladder, as if they were only better than livestock"!
In 187o, a US ambassador to Peru said in a letter to his own government on the issue of Coolidum: "I came to the conclusion that Coolidum was treated like an early American slave."
Some Chinese workers choose to commit suicide because they cannot tolerate this situation, and the mortality rate of Chinese workers is shocking.
The Peruvian Chinese workers' investigation report presented to the Chinese government by Yung Wing pointed out that "Since the beginning of the Xianfeng year, about 120,000 Chinese workers have been stored so far. There are countless abuses and deaths in these twenty years."
The cute president slapped the table heavily.
Without national strength and military, there will be no diplomacy.
It would be fine if the British and French bully people, but they are big powers after all.
Mama, can Peru and Cuba ride on the heads of China, all of which are full of bird droppings?
This is a pain that a cute president who doesn't know much about history cannot imagine.
"President, don't be too angry, let it be left to Li Hongzhang and the others?" Princess Katrina Kaif comforted her softly.
The cute president sighed heavily, "If there was a navy that could fight across the ocean, I would like to send troops to this small country now!"
