[1365 Zhang Haobo and Gao Yitong]

Zhang Haobo, major agent of the Central Asian Provincial Bureau of Statistics, and Gao Yitong, the commander of the Second Regiment of the Second Brigade of the Fifth Field Division of the Chinese Army, set off with more than 210 people on the same day. This was just a small army, but everyone was capable. They were all veterans of more than three years. They participated in the Battle of Omsk and the war to expel Tsarist Russian troops in Central Asian Province. Some even participated in the battle of the Chinese army entering the pass and overthrew the Qing Dynasty.

The troops are all cavalry, and there is definitely no problem with combat effectiveness, but the number of people is too small.

The British regular troops in Afghanistan reached 150,000, and the British still has more than 50,000 troops in India. At the same time, the British Indian troops in Afghanistan also reached 300,000!

The local militia in Afghanistan reached about 1.2 million, but only sickles, bows and arrows could not confront the British on the front battlefield. The war between the two sides for Kandahar has lasted for more than a year. Sometimes it was Kandahar in the hands of the British army, and sometimes it was Kandahar falling into the hands of the Afghan army.

So before the troops set off, Yekazelina Krimova would tell Zhang Haobo and Gao Yitong that if Kandahar was in the hands of the British army, they would just take care of the embassy and Chinese businessmen. If Kandahar was in the hands of the Afghans, they would do their best to influence Mohammed Yakub Khan.

They set out from Herat, headed to Kandahar, and soon arrived at the Helmand River Basin. If it were all controlled by the Chinese army, in fact, the special cavalry unit of the Chinese army would be enough to reach its destination in three days. However, the situation was different this time, so Vladimir Granath, as their highest operation commander, did not specify their specific arrival time, as long as the people were safe.

"Be careful, this area will encounter Afghan troops at any time." Zhang Haobo said to the guide beside him, Mahmodi, an agent of the China Bureau of Statistics.

Mahmodi was recruited by China in 1874. She has been in the China Statistics Bureau for more than six years, has been trained for more than five years, and has served for one year.

Since 1872, Emperor Hua has been recruiting agents around the world, with a total of more than 40,000. The total number of overseas agents from the China Bureau of Statistics is 200,000, of which more than two-tenths of them are foreign agents. Foreign agents have also made great contributions to China's external spy intelligence.

Mahmodi is particularly familiar with the situation in Afghanistan, but he is not an Afghan, but a person from Almaty. During his training, he was sent to Afghanistan for on-site training many times. He is very familiar with the situation in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. He was officially appointed to the Statistics Bureau of Central Asia last year and is now a captain agent. This is a very high military rank. If it were in the army, it would be a battalion-level cadre.

Mahmodi nodded and agreed to Zhang Haobo's words, "The head is right. Be careful here. Where there are dense forests, you may encounter Afghan guerrillas. Guerrilla warfare is not a disaster for China. As long as the weak army meets a powerful opponent, no one will be able to adopt guerrilla tactics."

After hearing the words of the two people, Gao Yitong looked around vigilantly. He was the highest-ranking officer of this army, but was led by senior agents. Therefore, he had to obey Zhang Haobo's words in this small army.

"I think, stop for a while, wait until the scouts in front come back, and move forward, I'd rather be slower." Gao Yitong suggested.

"Okay, just do as Captain Gao wants." Zhang Haobo nodded.

The troops stopped for more than ten minutes, and the reconnaissance cavalry in front returned and found traces of the Afghans.

"It seems that after we entered the Helmand River Basin, someone has already set his sights on us." Gao Yitong said to Zhang Haobo and Mahmodi.

Zhang Haobo said: "Maybe, as soon as we left the range of Herat, Afghans were already staring at us. We have agents, and they also have agents. Although we are not as professional as us, it does not mean there is no one."

Mahmodi nodded and said, "It's probably the case, otherwise it's strange that we haven't seen Afghans all the way. I think they mostly want to set up an ambush here."

"Tell Vladimir Granath about the situation here, and shouted through the microphone, telling them that we are not here to be hostile to the Afghans, and that we are going to Kandahar to protect our embassy." Zhang Haobo said to Mahmodi.

"Yes, head." Mahmodi agreed, hugging her waist in front and shouting in the jungle. He believed that if the Afghans set up an ambush in this section, they would definitely be able to hear it.

"Friends, we are Chinese troops, not to be hostile to you. We are just going to Kandahar to protect our embassy. We only have two hundred people. I believe you all saw it?" Mahmodi shouted loudly in pure Afghan language.

After shouting for several minutes, the Junlin had no echo at all.

Mahmodi said to Zhang Haobo: "What should I do if this is the case? I don't know if they agree or disagree, are they still nearby, or have they left?"

"Don't shoot, move forward slowly. Dismount all." Zhang Haobo faced Gao Yi Channel.

Gao Yitong nodded and whispered to the officer beside him: "Notify us, everyone should move forward slowly, pay special attention to alert, and never shoot casually. Dismount and move forward."

In this way, the troops were dismounted, and everyone was carrying the President's 1878 rifle, the most advanced rifle of this era, following the other, nervously walking in the mountains of Afghanistan.

Bang, the sound of a bow and arrow breaking the tense atmosphere.

In an instant, several soldiers fell to the ground by arrows.

"Hide!" Without waiting for Gao Yitong to call, these veterans who have been through the battlefield drank and looked for a place to hide.

With the quality of the Chinese army, it is impossible to be ambushed at close range. The other party suddenly rushed out of the mountain. There were thousands of people wearing headscarves, and you could tell at a glance that they were natives of Afghanistan.

"Retaliate on the spot!" Zhang Haobo was too late to retreat at Gaoyi Pass. The bows and arrows of these people were not vegetarian, especially in the old forest, which was no less powerful than the 1878 rifle of the President of the Chinese Army.

"Break back on the spot and beat me hard!" Gao Yitong yelled the order.

Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang.

Although this unit has a small number of people, it is the elite of the third division. Which one is not a hit every time?

A round of intensive shooting caused Afghans to rush down from the mountain to fall in rows. Indigenous people fought purely by bravery, so how could they have the awareness of modern combat? Just now, they took the advantage of taking the lead. If the Chinese army knew in advance that they were going to take action, none of the Chinese army would die.

In less than five minutes, more than a thousand natives died. None of the remaining two or three hundred people had ever seen such fire attacks? They didn't even care about the bodies of their companions, and under the command of the leader, they fled to the mountain with no life.

"Catch or not?" Gao Yitong was full of anger and died several brothers. Although they were not all subordinates in his own regiment, the Chinese army was as close as brothers. As long as one of them was wearing Chinese army uniforms, everyone would share the same hatred for the enemy if one died.

Zhang Haobo said: "Stop chasing, you won't kill them even if you chase them, so as not to cause greater misunderstandings."

"It's already like this? Why are you afraid of misunderstandings? These people don't know what to do if they say anything, and they just come up and do it." Gao Yitong said dissatisfied.

"That's because we entered other people's territory. What can the indigenous people tell you?" Zhang Haobo sighed, "Hurry up and clean up the corpses of his brothers and leave this forest area as soon as possible."

Gao Yitong saw that Zhang Haobo gave a clear order, that Zhang Haobo was the supreme commander of this operation and could only obey.

Zhang Haobo immediately sent someone to send a telegram to Vladimir Granath of Herat.

Vladimir Granath called back and affirmed their actions, but he tried to understand the situation of the indigenous people as much as possible and tried to find the leaders of the indigenous people to explain.

According to the terrain, Vladimir Granath guessed that it was the Sunni tribe of Mohammed Yakub Khan, who was afraid of causing greater misunderstandings, so he told them not to rush to travel.

After all, the Chinese army has had political tasks this time. If we just want to kill people, we can just send a large army to the place. Why should we send such a few people?

Zhang Haobo told Gao Yitong about Vladimir Granath's meaning.
