Chapter 30 The Light and Color of the Dinner Party

The Elk Tower, the tallest building in Sacramento, is the venue for the Governor’s Christmas dinner.

Although it is less than one kilometer away from the official residence, it is still necessary to take a bus.

As the owner of the banquet, the Warren family will arrive at the venue in the first batch.

Of course, Governor Warren does not need to take action on the specific arrangement of the banquet. All he has to do is to determine the list of invited guests and attend the banquet.

Under the Elk Tower, reporters who heard the news were gathered. When the governor's car arrived, the reporters excitedly pressed the shutter of the camera.

When they got off the car, the governor and his wife did not walk side by side. Earl Warren held Dora and Dorothy left and right, walked in the front, Nina followed closely behind, and Virginia walked in the back with her brother Evan's arm.

Evan, who was onlooker for the first time, was not used to being watched by people. The spotlight of the old-fashioned camera was flashing and people couldn't open their eyes.

After Evan walked into the building with his sister stiffly, he breathed a long sigh of relief. Virginia thoughtfully wiped the sweat from Evan's forehead and said, "Evan, why do you seem very nervous this time?"

Evan casually defended himself: "I was so nervous, I was just flashing into my eyes by the spotlight."

When he arrived at the venue on the second floor, Evan saw Assistant Governor Joe at the entrance of the venue.

"Hi Joe, don't you have to be with Mr. Governor?" Evan greeted.

"Good evening, Evan, Virginia. You are so beautiful tonight." Joe boasted and replied, "No, sir, let me welcome you here."

"There is still some time before the banquet begins. If you feel bored, you can go to the lounge next to you to wait."

"Thank you for the reminder, Joe!" Virginia smiled and expressed her gratitude, "Evan, are we going there? Dora is waving to us!".

"Okay!" Evan responded, and before leaving, he told Joe: "Joe, you know Carl Patton, can you inform me if you see him?"

Qiao nodded and said, "I know you, please rest assured!"

After Evan nodding to express his gratitude, he and Virginia walked towards the place where their family were. While walking, Evan observed the venue. He often came to the Tower of Elk, but this was his first time in this venue.

At a rough look, the venue is about 1,200 square meters in area, with windows on the north and south sides, entrance on the west side, and a podium in the middle on the east side. On the right side is a Christmas tree at least three meters high. The trees are wrapped with colorful lights and other various decorations.

The part near the podium of the hall is empty, and the rest of the space is divided into two parts: north and south. The south part is the dining table. Because the dinner is self-service, there are no tableware except for the decorative flowers. As for the north, it is the buffet dish area. The dinner has not started yet. Now there are only desserts, drinks and wines to use.

Because it was still early, there were not many people in the hall now, and most of the waiters and banquet staff were walking back and forth.

When passing by the beverage area, Evan picked up a glass of orange juice. When he was about to taste the taste, he found Virginia looking at him with a weird look.

Evan raised the juice in his sister and asked, "Do you want it? If you want it, I'll give you this cup."

"No, thank you!" Virginia shook her head: "I don't want to go in and out of WC frequently."

"If you don't, don't want it. There is no need to say this, right?" Evan thought for a while, and although he didn't put the cup back, he didn't drink it again.

The Warren and his wife were standing near the Christmas tree at the right time, and were having a cordial conversation with a middle-aged man with half-bad hair. The children stood beside Nina in a regular manner, but Dora obviously didn't have a quiet time. Seeing that Evan and Virginia couldn't come, they kept waving to them. After Evan finally met, Dora looked at the cup in his hand, his eyes were ready to move.

Evan asked silently with his eyes: "Do you want it?"

Dora nodded like a rice pecking at the chicken.

Evan made the move to hand over the cup. Dora was so happy that she stretched out her hands to pick it up, but she didn't expect Evan to take it back halfway.

Dora's arm froze in the air and it took a while to put it on. She glared at Evan, who was smirking, and pouted unhappily.

Nina saw the little movements of the brother and sister. She remained silent because her husband was talking to the guests.

After "provoking" too much, Evan did not make any more funny. Not long after, the topic seemed to turn to the governor's family, and Earl Warren introduced the person whom his family was one by one.

"This is my wife, Nina."

"I'm glad to know you, beautiful lady." The man stretched out his hand gentlemanly, held Nina's hand, lowered his head and kissed her gently on the back of her hand.

Nina replied appropriately: "So, sir!"

Then there were Virginia, Dora, Doroth and Robert. The man bowed meticulously to everyone, and everyone bowed one by one.

The last one was introduced was Evan. Earl Warren said in a proud tone: "This is Evan, probably the smartest child in my family. I also have an oldest son, Colin, who joined the army a few months ago, and now I guess I'm washing the deck across the Pacific."

The middle-aged man smiled slightly, shook hands with Evan cordially, and said, "What a handsome young man, Evan, right? I have heard of you, from Ando Ichiki. I have a daughter named Sarah, who is about the same age as you. If you have the chance, you can get to know her."

Evan was stunned at first, then smiled shyly and replied, "Thank you for your praise..."

The man saw Evan's confusion, turned his eyes and found out the reason. He patted Evan on the shoulder, looked at Earl next to him, and smiled and said, "I'll introduce myself. My name is James Roosevelt."

After hearing this, Evan opened his mouth in surprise and blurted out and asked, "Is it the Roosevelt of Theodore Roosevelt?"

James's heart was surprised, but his face was calm. He shrugged and said, "It's not wrong to say that."

But it's not true.

This flashed through Evan's heart.

At this moment, another guest came to the governor. James shook hands with Earl again, walked to the side, giving up time and space for others.

After James left, Evan seized the gap and asked Earl quietly: "Mr. James is from Franklin Roosevelt..."

Earl replied, "The eldest son!"

The answer in my heart was confirmed, and Evan, who didn't know much about American politics, especially this time period, became increasingly confused.

Isn't the former president a member of the Democratic Party?

James, who inherited his father's legacy, is also a Democratic leader, but how could he come to California to attend his father's dinner? And he came so early!

Strange! It's so strange!

Having said that, I don’t know what the purpose of this dinner my father held?

Well, forget it, I still don’t miss him for such a brain-burning thing.
